Will Windows 11 become the “entrance” of Microsoft Cloud?

The latest version of Windows will help attract more developers to use Azure

Before the release of Windows 11 next month, Microsoft’s operating system is no longer the company’s biggest money-making tool, because its cloud computing business has surpassed Windows in recent years.

The launch of Windows 11 follows the PC boom driven by the pandemic last year, when chip shortages made it difficult for consumers to buy new devices. Fortunately, Microsoft has solved this problem in the form of a new Windows 365 PC as a service product, which allows users to stream Windows desktops to any of their devices anytime, anywhere.

As the company’s cloud revenue grows, Windows is now part of its “More Personal Computing” revenue division, which also includes Xbox, Surface hardware, and Bing search ads.

Entrance to Azure

In the past, Microsoft required users to pay to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system, but this all changed with the release of Windows 10 in 2015. Just like Apple, the company allows users to upgrade for free, which will also be the case when Windows 11 is released next month.

Although users no longer need to pay for Windows upgrades, Microsoft’s operating system still provides great value to the company because developers are more likely to write software for it due to its large user base. One of the reasons Azure can start catching up with AWS in the cloud computing field is its huge installed base on Windows and Microsoft 365.

In Windows 11, Microsoft plans to provide better window management through its Snap Layouts to meet the needs of developers, allowing advanced users to quickly open multiple applications to a preset location on their screen. At the same time, the company is also changing its Windows application store to allow developers to get more revenue from their applications.

The release of Windows 11 will give existing users a reason to continue using Microsoft’s operating system, but it will also help the development of Azure, especially as more and more people turn to OneDrive to store their files in the cloud.
