It can be exciting for everyone to buy a new phone, especially if you have an iPhone 13, iPhone 12, or a great Android phone currently available. But you must take care of the old iPhone first. If it is still working, there are multiple options to consider. It can be sold to strangers in exchange for some funds, or it can continue to be used. If you are going to sell to strangers, there is still some work to be done before you sell or trade your old iPhone. You need to take some time to erase it and reset it to factory settings. This is to prevent strangers from knowing some of your information, so for your privacy, you should do this. Below, I will guide you through the steps you need to perform before resetting your phone.
The first step is to back up your iPhone
Before you reset your iPhone, please create a backup. You can use it to set up your new iPhone. If you lose contacts or photos on your new phone, you can return to that backup. You can back up by connecting your iPhone to your Mac and following the steps below, or use iTunes on your PC to back up. Or, you can use iCloud to back up your phone by going to Settings> tap your name at the top of the page> iCloud> iCloud Backup> Back Up Now. This backup method may take a while, depending on when you back up your phone, but it is very simple. Just make sure to connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network and charger to prevent the backup battery from draining battery power.
After the backup is complete, you should also do the following things:
Exit all applications and services. Browse every application and service you log in and log out of
Delete any email, contact, or calendar account from your device in “Settings”> “Mail/Contacts/Calendar”> “Accounts”.
Please remove your SIM card. If your new phone has a new SIM card, please destroy and throw away the old phone. If you have been using eSIM, please make sure to remove or deactivate it.
The next step is to reset your iPhone
After backing up your phone and deleting all accounts, open the “Settings” app to restore it to factory settings. Then tap “General”> “Reset”> “Erase All Content and Settings” and confirm your decision. You will be asked to enter your phone’s PIN, and then enter your Apple ID password to turn off Apple’s “Find” service. After entering the password, the screen will dim and display the Apple logo and progress bar. After a few minutes, you will see a screen with “Hello” flashing in different languages, indicating that the reset was successful.
Now that your phone is wiped and ready for the new owner to use, you can send it out with confidence because your information is no longer on the phone.
