Vivo V40 Pro review

The Vivo V40 Pro takes great photos, has long battery life, and plenty of power for an affordable price. The problem, as always, is usability. Key FeaturesUltra-thin body, big capacityThe Vivo V40 Pro batteryis crammed into a 7.6mm-thick body, making it one of the best battery size-to-thickness ratios we’ve seen. It charges very quickly, too, with support for 80W wired charging.Impressive performance The upgrade to the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ makes the Vivo V40 Pro the best V-series gaming phone yet. It’s a very noticeable improvement.Excellent cameras and image processing The four 50MP cameras and excellent processing power go hand in hand to take some of the best photos in this price range. It’s especially good for portraits and selfies.

Vivo V40 Pro side
The frame is made of plastic, which is the first sign that this isn’t a flagship. However, while the plastic may not feel that premium, it should be fairly durable. Vivo says it added reinforcement and cushioning materials to improve the phone’s resistance to drops and shocks.
A typical clear TPU case is included in the box, which isn’t anything special, but it’s nice to have, especially since cases for the V series are hard to come by. There’s also a factory-applied plastic screen protector included to keep the display from getting scuffed.
Screen8.78-inch 120Hz OLED2800 x 1260 resolution, curved edges4500 nits peak brightnessAt first glance, the V40 Pro’s display is nearly identical to the V30 Pro’s, with the exact same resolution and refresh rate. The difference this time around is that it has a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, a significant increase over the 2,800-nit output of its predecessor. Colors look fairly accurate by default, but there’s plenty of customization in the settings if you want to tweak the look. There are three main profiles you can choose from, and you can adjust the color temperature for each.

This phone has a larger battery capacity than some of the most expensive flagship phones on the market, which is very impressive for a phone like this.
Unsurprisingly, this phone lasts a long time on a charge. I barely managed to get through two days without having to lift a finger, and it was not uncommon to go to bed with 60%Vivo V40 Pro phone battery left. Of course, theVivo V40 Pro phone batterylife depends a lot on what you’re doing. If you spend hours playing graphics-intensive games, or shooting a lot of video, then you may need to charge more frequently, but you shouldn’t have trouble by the end of the day regardless.
The phone charges very quickly, too. An 80W wall adapter is included in the box, and it takes about half an hour to charge from completely empty to 60%. A full charge takes about 50 minutes.
There’s no wireless charging, but that’s not surprising, as wireless charging is still a rarity in this price segment. Wireless charging is becoming more common, though, so hopefully we’ll see it in future V-series phones.
