Live Caption runs in English on the Pixel 2 and later, so it should work on any Pixel phone launched in the past four years. According to Google, subtitles are stored and processed locally and never leave your device.

You can also adjust certain settings, such as hiding profanity and adding labels to sounds like laughter and applause. Open Settings and select Live Captions to customize these options. It’s also important to note that Live Caption consumes extra battery, so you may only want to turn it on when you need it.

Take better photos of stars

Google’s Pixel phones have features specifically designed to help you take photos of the night sky. It works on Pixel 3 and above, but if you’re on Pixel 4A 5G and above, you’ll need to adjust the zoom setting to at least 1x.

Google says the feature works best when taking pictures away from city lights for at least 45 to 90 minutes after sunset. You’ll also need a tripod or other stable surface rather than your hands for best results.

Just open the camera app, prop up the phone and make sure it’s steady, and tap Night Sight to get started. After a few seconds, you should see a message saying “Astrophotography on”. Press the capture button and put the phone aside until you finish taking the photo.

Translate screenshots in other languages

You can use Google‘s Lens feature to translate screenshots in Spanish, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and more. Open the Google Photos app and select the screenshot you want to translate. Then tap the lens icon that looks like a camera and select the translate icon. This works on Pixel 3 and above.

Switch to selfie camera without pressing any buttons

You can switch between the Pixel’s selfie camera and the main camera without having to click any buttons. Just open the Pixel’s camera app and turn the phone twice to switch between cameras. If you’re not sure what I mean by “twist”, Google has a helpful animation for you.

If you’re still having trouble, check your Pixel’s settings to make sure this feature is enabled. Open the Settings app, select System, then Flip Camera Selfie.

Open an app or take a screenshot by tapping the back of the phone

Add a handy shortcut to your Pixel phone with Google’s Quick Tap feature. This lets you open apps, take screenshots, play or pause media, or show notifications with just two taps on the back of your phone. It only works on newer Google phones like the Pixel 4A 5G and above.

To turn on Quick Click and customize its actions, open the Settings menu and select System. Then, choose gestures and quick taps. From here, turn on Quick Tap and choose what you want to do when you tap the back of your device.

Let the Google Assistant filter your calls

Google is expected to help with its call screen feature, which is available on all Pixel phones. When this feature is on, the Google Assistant can answer unknown calls and ask who the caller is and why. If it’s a spam call, it will hang up automatically, but you can see how the caller responded and decide whether to answer the caller or not.

Google doesn’t block calls from phone numbers saved in your contacts, and your Pixel doesn’t automatically block calls when you’re using a headset or connected to Bluetooth.

Google Pixel 6 owners: What you need to know before installing the Android 13 update

 Google is warning owners of recent Pixel smartphones that the upgrade to Android 13 will be permanent — they won’t be able to go back to Android 12 or earlier.

Specifically, if you own a Google Pixel 6, Google Pixel 6 Pro, or the new Google Pixel 6a and upgrade to the latest OS, you won’t be able to revert to an earlier version. So while Android 13 is now available, you might want to think twice if you want to be able to downgrade to an earlier Android OS.

The warning appeared on Google’s Factory Images page – which enables older Android versions to be quickly installed on Google smartphones. In the warning, Google said “The Android 13 update for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a includes a bootloader update that adds an anti-rollback version. After flashing Android 13 on these devices, you won’t be able to Flash to an older Android 12 version.”

Unless you have a specific reason to downgrade, there’s usually no need to go back to the old OS on any device, especially if you’re concerned about digital security and want your apps to work. But with Google’s new changes to how its updates work, Pixel users may need to be a little careful before upgrading the OS.

While this Android 13 release is supposed to be stable — issues have been resolved thanks to months of beta testing — issues with the OS are not uncommon. Take a look at Microsoft’s Windows 11 – the operating system faces endless problems and often sees users opting to downgrade to older versions of Windows.

That said, if you’ve already upgraded to Android 13, there’s no need to panic. Going forward, you may want to wait a few days before downloading a new Android OS to make sure you don’t run into any major bugs until Google fixes them.

It’s unclear why the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a are unique among Google’s phones in that it doesn’t allow you to downgrade from Android 13, and it’s also unclear if the limitation affects other Android 13-compatible devices.

Android 13 may land earlier than Google Pixel 7

 The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will almost certainly be the first phones to ship with Android 13, but some older phones may actually be updated to Android 13 before these phones launch, as we’ll likely see the next Pixel Models come in October, and Android 13 now looks almost certain to arrive in September.

Pixel 7 series: Everything we know about Google’s upcoming phones

 Google’s Pixel 7 series is the upcoming successor to the company’s successful Pixel 6 series. Google teased the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at its annual developer conference in May, giving us an idea of ​​what to expect from the company’s upcoming flagship lineup. Beyond what you think of “big versus small,” the Pixel 6 has a great display. It has the same resolution, 1080 x 2400, but with a 90Hz refresh rate instead of 60Hz, and more advanced display technology, so it supports HDR10+. Both phone displays use a “punch hole” cutout for the front-facing camera at the top center of the panel.

The Google Pixel 6a and Pixel 6 have two cameras in common, one different.

The first similarity is the selfie camera, both boast an 8MP f/2.0 snapper that worked well in our tests, and the second is a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 114-degree field of view.

The main difference here is the main camera — while the Pixel 6 has a high-res 50MP f/1.9 main camera, the 6a has the same 12.2MP f/1.7 unit that Google has used in all of its smartphones for several years.

That’s not as big a downgrade as the numbers suggest – it’s still good for bright photos, but they won’t be as high-resolution as you get on the Pixel 6.

Google has done a good job with AI, especially scene optimization, and using the same algorithm to optimize images on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a, the results aren’t worlds apart. The 6a also has many of the Pixel 6’s camera features, most notably the Magic Eraser, which lets you pick unwanted background elements in your photos and scrub them using AI.

All three members of the Google Pixel 6 series have the exact same chipset. That’s Google’s own Tensor chip, and these three phones mark its debut in a consumer phone. Its real strength is the range of AI intelligence it facilitates. A lot of that is in the camera department.

The Google Pixel 6a feels almost identical to the Pixel 6 when it comes to gaming, AI, and intensive processing. That said, the standard Pixel 6 has an advantage in terms of RAM, as you get 8GB, while the Pixel 6a has 6GB. They’re both 5G phones, so no matter which model you choose, your connectivity should be the same. One spec you can play with is storage, and while both phones have a 128GB option, only the Pixel 6 also comes with a 256GB option.

Unfortunately, the two Pixel phones don’t have enough in common when it comes to battery life.

On paper, the Pixel 6’s 4,614mAh battery and the 6a’s 4,410mAh battery seem pretty similar. But in our experience, we’ve found that the Pixel 6 has decent battery life, but the Pixel 6a’s battery life is disappointing, rarely lasting a day.

Charging speed is another key difference – there’s only 18W on the 6a, which means it takes nearly two hours to fully charge. By comparison, the Pixel 6 has 30W of power and reaches 80 percent after an hour of charging, and the phone also features 21W wireless charging and wireless power sharing.
