Apple MacBook Pro 14The laptop with the longestApple MacBook Pro 14 batterylife we’ve tested is the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M3, 2023). This premium workstation’s battery life lasts for more than 15 hours with light use. That’s enough to get you through a full day, or even two, easily, depending on your workload. It has a crisp Mini LED display, a roomy keyboard, and an easy-to-use tactile touchpad. Ports include three USB/Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1, and a full-size SD card reader. You can configure it with either the M3 Pro or Max SoC (system-on-chip); both are fast enough to handle demanding workloads like video editing, 3D graphics and animation, and programming. There’s also a basic M3 chip option if you don’t need as much processing power but still want “pro” features like a display and upward-firing speakers.
A Windows alternative is the Dell XPS 16 (2024). It’s also a high-end workstation laptop with plenty of processing power and good battery life, though the hardware configuration will affect its longevity. Hardware options include Intel Core 7 or 9 CPUs, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, and either 120Hz FHD+ IPS or 90Hz 4K+ OLED panels. The latter has full DCI P3 color space coverage, making it a great choice for color-critical work at the expense of battery life. The SSD is user-replaceable, so you can easily increase the amount or upgrade to better-performing memory or a faster drive. While this laptop is very well-made, unfortunately both the keyboard layout and touchpad design take a while to get comfortable using; the borderless design of the keycaps can easily lead to accidental inputs, and you can’t see the edge of the touchpad due to the front deck design.
Apple MacBook Air 13
Our best mid-range and high-end pick is the Apple MacBook Air 13 (2024). Like the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M3, 2023) above, it’s a high-end, well-built model with a Apple MacBook Air 13 battery that can easily get you through a typical eight-hour workday. Its base M3 SoC isn’t as powerful as the M3 Pro or Max versions, so it’s better suited for lighter general productivity tasks like text processing, web browsing, and video playback. It can handle some demanding work, like video editing, but you won’t get as good an experience as the Pro models.
The user experience is great, with a bright Retina display, a comfortable keyboard, and a huge tactile trackpad. The main downside is that it only has two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports; this supports two external displays, but only when the laptop is closed. Apple is still selling the M2-based Apple MacBook Air 13 (2022) as a more affordable option, at $100 less. The M3 model has only a few minor upgrades, including Wi-Fi 6E, slightly better performance, and support for two external displays (when the laptop is closed).
For Windows users, we recommend the HP Spectre x360 14 (2024). This 14-inch 2-in-1 offers an excellent user experience, with great build quality, a large tactile trackpad, and a crisp 2.8K OLED display, while still delivering all-day battery life for light use. It has a better port selection than the MacBook Air, with one USB-A, two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it also supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, which offers faster connection speeds and lower latency if you have a compatible modem. Its Meteor Lake Intel processor handles general productivity tasks without a problem, but isn’t quite as well suited to more demanding workloads.
Lenovo Yoga 7i 16
If you want a more modest mid-range model, check out the Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023). It has a large 16-inch display that’s perfect for split-screen multitasking, and since it’s a 2-in-1, you can flip the screen around and use it as a tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 battery lasts a little over 12 hours with light use, and charges over USB-C. You can choose between an FHD+ or QHD+ panel; we recommend the latter because it looks sharper and is brighter to combat glare. You can configure it with Intel’s 13th-generation U-series and P-series CPUs, which are fast enough for general productivity tasks like text processing, web browsing, presentations, and spreadsheets.
The keyboard feels nice to type on and also comes with a number pad, which is great for people who crunch a lot of numbers. It also has a fingerprint sensor and a facial recognition camera for quick logins. Port-wise, there are two USB-A, two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, one HDMI, and a MicroSD card reader. The only downsides are that the webcam image has an unnatural tint and the microphone picks up some background noise. Finally, the display supports stylus input, but you may need to buy the stylus separately, depending on the model. The stylus uses Wacom AES technology and supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt.

The Dell Alienware m18 R2 (2024) is a mid-range gaming laptop. It replaces the Dell Alienware m18 (2023). This 2024 model features Intel 14th-generation CPUs (Raptor Lake update) up to the Core i9-14900HX, and NVIDIA 40-series GPUs, from the RTX 4060 to the RTX 4090, the latter with a maximum TGP (total graphics power) of 175W. Memory and storage max out at 64GB and 8TB (in RAID 0), respectively. Display options remain the same as its predecessor, including 165Hz QHD+ and 480Hz FHD+ panels; both support G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology. It has a 1080p webcam, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a 97Wh Dell Alienware m18 R2  battery. The keyboard switches are customizable; you can choose between scissor switches or ultra-thin (clicky) CherryMX mechanical switches. Ports include three USB-A, three USB-C (two with Thunderbolt 4 support), one HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, an SD card reader, and a 3.5mm headphone jack The Dell Alienware m18 R2 is an excellent gaming laptop. The layout feels spacious and easy to adapt to, and it’s the same no matter which key switches you use. The keys are stable, have a good amount of travel, and require very little force to actuate. They offer a unique tactile and audio feedback; you can hear it here. Oppo’s Reno 10 smartphone series, which comprises the Oppo Reno 10 5G, Oppo Reno 10 Pro and Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus, has officially launched in various regions across the world, but only the first of those devices is available in the UK.
Positioned as a mid-range photography powerhouse, the Oppo Reno 10 5G arrives as the successor to the Oppo Reno 9, which itself succeeded the Oppo Reno 8. The latter phone was the last Reno device to ship in Western markets, though, so – for the most part – we’ll be comparing the Oppo Reno 10 5G to that phone throughout this guide.

In all likelihood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G will be coming to Europe and Australia, too, but Oppo hasn’t yet shared release date or pricing information for either region. As with other Oppo products in 2023, US consumers look set to miss out on the Oppo Reno 10 5G.

Oppo Reno 10 5GOn the design and display front, the Oppo Reno 10 5G measures 162.4 x 74.2 x 8 mm and weighs 185g, meaning it’s a touch larger and heavier than the Oppo Reno 8.
That bigger frame does, however, allow the Oppo Reno 10 5G to pack a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen than its predecessor, with the newer phone also boasting an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio.
The phone’s refresh rate sits at 120Hz, and its display offers HDR10+ support and 950 nits of peak brightness. The screen itself is slightly curved, too, with Oppo describing the Reno 10 5G as having a “3D dual curved design.”
There’s an under-display fingerprint scanner, and the phone – which is available in the UK in one color: Silvery Grey (yes, that’s the official name) – is wrapped in a fingerprint-resistant coating.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: CamerasOppo is marketing the Reno 10 5G as “The Portrait Expert,” which says something about what the company considers to be the phone’s biggest strength.
The Reno 10 5G boasts a three-lens rear camera setup comprising a 64MP wide-angle lens (f/1/7), a 32MP telephoto lens (f/2.0) and an 8MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2). The second of that lineup is what earns the phone its “Portrait Expert” title, with the telephoto lens offering a 47mm focal length and marking the first of its kind in the Oppo Reno range.
The Reno 10 5G offers a Pro-Portrait mode, too, which supposedly preserves the skin tone of subjects and puts “Pro aesthetics” at your disposal. On the selfie-snapping front, the Reno 10 5G packs a 32MP camera.
Oppo has told us that the Reno 10 5G is equipped with “by far the strongest set of cameras for where this phone sits in the market,” so we’re excited to put this setup to the test.

That said, the Dimensity 7050 is an objectively superior chipset to the Dimensity 1300 chipset used in the Oppo Reno 8, and since that phone already delivers solid performance for its mid-range price, we expect the Dimensity 7050 to deliver an even smoother scrolling and gaming experience.
Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G packs a hefty 5,000 mAh Oppo Reno 10 5G battery, which should reliably see you through a whole day of moderate to heavy use.
The phone comes bundled with Oppo’s 67W fast charger in the box – which isn’t a given these days (looking at you, Apple and Samsung) – and the company claims that you’ll be able to fully recharge the Reno 10 5G in just 47 minutes using this charger.
There’s no wireless charging capabilities, unfortunately, but that’s to be expected for a phone in this price range.
In terms of updates, Oppo says the Reno 10 5G will be supported with two years’ worth of Android updates and four years’ worth of security updates.

Apple Watch Series 7 review: The screen is the key

The Apple Watch has been hailed as the smartwatch worth owning, but last year’s Series 6 offered little reason to upgrade. Fortunately, 2021’s Series 7 is a much bigger upgrade – literally – offering a bigger, brighter, better screen. But aside from the increased size, little has changed from previous years. Given the fast-paced world of technological advancement, is the Apple Watch Series 7 impressive enough to be true – or should you give the 2021 model a miss and wait to see what 2022 brings?
Design-wise, the Series 7 takes a very similar approach to the Series 6: the case design is the same (albeit larger), the Digital Crown is the same, and even the bands are the same (which is good, because it means old models will still fit). Apple Watch Series 7 BatteryThere are both Wi-Fi and cellular options, new 41mm and 45mm case sizes, and special editions from Nike and Hermès. There’s a lot of choice, with three materials to choose from – aluminum, stainless steel, titanium – and a variety of colors to choose from if you want something particularly eye-catching.
There are also some new colors for the aluminum casing: Midnight Black; Starlight Silver, which has a hint of gold; Green, which is more similar to the iPhone 11’s Midnight Green colorway; and (Product) Red, which is closer to Bright Cherry. The Apple Watch Series 7 takes durability to the next level, with not only IP6X dust resistance, but also a 5ATM water resistance rating. This should make it more suitable for the “beach”, as dust, sand, and even water (50 meters) are not a concern for this wearable device.

Xiaomi Mi 12 battery and charging specs revealed — and it’s weird

The Xiaomi Mi 12 could be a weird step backwards in terms of battery size and charging speed on the Mi 12 phones The Mi 12 could be the last flagship phone to launch in 2021, but the launch of this phone could have unpleasant consequences.
In a particularly brief message, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station said: “4500mah ± 67w.” Judging from the replies to the post, it’s clear they’re talking about the Mi 12.
67W is the charging speed of the base Mi 11T, but we’ve been hoping that Xiaomi would bring 120W charging speeds to the entire line. This is the fastest charging speed we’ve tried, and if it’s equipped on the base Mi 12, it will have an advantage over the already fast 65W charging of the OnePlus 9 series or the unexpected 25W charging speed of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
There’s also the possibility of a silver lining. Xiaomi introduced the 120W charging standard exclusively for the Mi 11T Pro, so perhaps this speed will once again be reserved for the Mi 12 Pro or 12 Ultra models. Additionally, the base Mi 11 uses 55W charging, so we’re still expecting a speed boost. The 4,500 mAhXiaomi Mi 11battery is surprisingly small. Not only is it smaller than the Mi 11T, but it’s also smaller than the Mi 11 it directly replaces. TheMi phones battery life of Mi phones can be extended by using the available power more efficiently, as well as increasing the battery capacity. So if this part of the leak is true, hopefully Xiaomi has been focusing on making the seriesXiaomi Mi 12  batteryless demanding.
In addition, DCS wrote in response to a comment in the post that phones of similar size usually have only 4,000 mAh. This may mean that the Mi 12 is a lot smaller than the previous 6.8-inch and 6.7-inch phones. If you don’t like the expansion of smartphone sizes in the past few years, then this is good news.
We don’t know much about the Mi 12 at the moment, but one thing that has been confirmed is that it uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be the gold standard chip for Android smartphones in 2022, so it’s great to see it appear in the 12.

Amazon Fire HD 10 review: The cheapest tablet with amazing battery life

The Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) is an already good tablet with incremental upgrades like a slightly brighter screen, 1GB more RAM, and a smaller, lighter design. While it may not be a must-have for anyone shopping for a 2019 tablet, it certainly shows that Amazon is capable of delivering a value-driven tablet that’s good enough for many people.
This makes the Fire HD 10 one of the best Android tablets on the market, and one of the best you can buy—especially if you’re on a budget, as it’s one of the best cheap tablets on the market. Its biggest flaws aren’t anything new, though. Amazon’s Fire OS is still lacking apps, lacking the Google Play app store. That means you don’t get the full YouTube experience, among other things.

As usual, Amazon is also selling a $199 Fire HD 10 Kids Edition, and the extra $50 gets you a 2-year unconditional warranty, a case with a kickstand, and a year of Amazon Kids+ (aka FreeTime Unlimited).


This year, Amazon is offering a few new optional upgrades: a $179 Fire HD 10 (2021) Plus with wireless charging and 4GB of RAM (up from 3GB in the entry-level model), and a $299 (currently $249) Fire HD 10 Plus Productivity Bundle that includes a detachable Bluetooth keyboard case and 12 months of Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

I also wish the Fire HD 10’s panel woke up when I tapped it. Alas, you need to tap the power button to turn the panel on.

After five generations of product iterations, Samsung seems to have basically nailed down the positioning of its flagship foldable phone (pun intended). The Galaxy Z Fold 5 looks very similar to its two predecessors, and aside from the processor and the (still) impressive hinge, the rest of the specs are exactly the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Bose has launched the SoundLink Flex, a particularly compact and powerful Bluetooth speaker. In a way, this speaker is similar to the SoundLink Mini 2, one of the most popular speakers in recent years. So, can Bose build on the success of the previous model and even improve it a bit? We tested this Bluetooth speaker in a nutshell
In our tests, the Soundlink Flex proved to be a worthy (spiritual) successor to the Soundlink Mini 2  Bluetooth speaker battery, which means that it is particularly impressive in terms of sound and Soundlink Flex battery life. Design and processingWith dimensions of 9 cm x 20.1 cm x 5.2 cm and a weight of 0.6 kg, Bose’s Soundlink Flex is a very compact Bluetooth speaker. The manufacturer opted for a sturdy steel housing and a silicone coating. While it is certainly practical that the manufacturer installed a fixing strap, the Soundlink Flex lacks connectivity. Because: there is only USB-C charging! The manufacturer provided us with the Soundlink Flex in carmine red for this test report. This color variant is only available on Amazon, or you can also choose between stone blue, cypress green, white and black. Bose therefore covers a wide range of colors, and I have to say subjectively that I really like the crimson variant.
The workmanship of the Soundlink Flex is also impeccable. Bose seals the Bluetooth speaker to IP67, the majority of the housing is made of non-slip silicone, and the speaker grilles on the front and back are powder-coated. This should make the speaker particularly robust.
Although our test sample is not brand new and may have passed through several editorial offices, I did not find any scratches or other defects. A small special feature: the Soundlink Flex floats – so you can just throw it into the pool and listen to music in the water.
With a weight of 0.6 kg, the Soundlink Flex is also very portable. You can also attach the speaker to a backpack or belt loop using a carabiner or a fixing knot. This is very practical for listening to music in the park or while riding a bike. By the way, the ring is made of finely woven fabric, which also feels nice and of good quality. However, there is one major drawback to the design of the Soundlink Flex: there is only one USB-C slot on the board. This means that you cannot connect any input device to the speaker via a cable. The included charging cable is also USB-C to USB Type A – by 2024, I hope there will be USB-C on both sides.
App and convenient featuresTo control the Soundlink Flex, Bose provides a companion app that you can install on iOS and Android. However, the Bose Connect app offers you rather few settings options – but it is (again) beautifully designed! If you want to use the Soundlink Flex, we recommend that you download the companion app “Bose Connect App”. You can use it to check the “Bose Soundlink Flex Bluetooth speaker battery level of the speaker and how many devices the speaker is connected to. It is also possible to switch between multiple devices, despite the lack of multi-pairing functionality (i.e. connecting to multiple devices at the same time).
Battery and chargingAccording to the manufacturer, the Soundlink Flex can last up to 12 hours when listening to music. Charging is done via USB-C only and you need to set aside a full four hours for a full charge. There is no fast charging feature or option to use the Soundlink Flex as a power bank. The maximum Soundlink Flex battery life is 12 hours, which is impressive in terms of Soundlink Flex batterylife. However, this value can only be realized in everyday life if you don’t turn the Bluetooth speaker fully on. With mixed usage behavior, the runtime drops to about 9 – 10 hours. In most usage scenarios, this is still a good value and you should be able to cope.
