Lenovo has unveiled two new thin and light mobile workstations built on Intel’s new Alder Lake processors. These include the 14-inch ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 and the 16-inch ThinkPad P16s Gen 1.
Features include a 16:10 aspect ratio display, an optional Nvidia T550 GPU, an FHD 1080p camera, and up to 48GB of DDR4 memory and 2TB of PCIe Gen4 NVMe storage.
Lenovo has also made some breakthroughs in terms of exterior design. In addition to traditional black, the new machines are also available in Storm Gray and aluminum “A” casing. Reliability and durability remain top priorities for Lenovo. For example, the ThinkPad 16s Gen 1 has passed 26 MIL-SPEC test procedures.
Other features include a wider touchpad, blue light reduction, X-Rite factory color calibration, Intel Wi-Fi 6E, and optional 4G. The ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 and ThinkPad P16s Gen 1 are available with 12th Generation “Alder Lake” Intel Core i7 processors with up to 14 cores and up to 4.8 GHz. According to Lane Jesseph, senior product manager for ThinkPad, this marks Intel’s first foray into two different core types – Power (P) cores and Efficiency (E) cores – giving you power when you need it and efficiency when you need it.

Both machines come with NVIDIA T550 professional graphics with 4GB of VRAM, both of which are ISV-certified. In theory, this makes them great for 3D CAD, but they may not fare well in more demanding 3D workflows like real-time visualization and VR.
The new laptops have a 16:10 screen ratio, which is taller than the traditional 16:9 screen. The ThinkPad P14s offers three panel choices, up to a WQUXGA (3,840 x 2,400) IPS touchscreen with 500nit brightness, while the ThinkPad P16s goes up to a WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) IPS touchscreen with 400nit brightness.
Both machines are very thin and light. The ThinkPad P16s is 20.5 – 21.1 mm thick and weighs from 1.73 kg, while the ThinkPad P14s is 17.9 mm thick and weighs from 1.39 kg.
