Huawei has done a great job shaping the MatePad 11, which is only available in matte grey in the UK – though you can get it in Island Blue and Olive Green elsewhere. It has a familiar rectangular shape, measuring 253.8mm wide, 165.3mm deep, 7.25mm thick and weighing 485g. The bezels around the screen are minimal, with Huawei claiming an 86% screen-to-body ratio, but we calculated the actual figure to be 82.9%.
Huawei MatePad 11 Batterylife is rated at 12 hours, and in daily use I found it lasted through a full day of writing, browsing and streaming, as well as streaming music and videos after get off work.
Four speakers deliver quality sound through a pair of grilles on either side of the screen (in landscape mode). The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset seemed plenty fast enough when I tested the MatePad 11 with 6GB of RAM. The rear camera is 13MP f/1.8, and the front camera is 8MP f/2.0 for video calls. Charging is very slow.The 10.95-inch IPS display is great. It’s sharp and bright, with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (275 ppi) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Huawei also offers a reading mode that converts everything to grayscale, which is a big plus for me. However, the screen is very reflective, which sometimes makes it inconvenient to use.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t test the MatePad 11 and its dedicated keyboard because Huawei sent me the keyboard from another device. This is a shame because it means I couldn’t use the full 2-in-1 setup to write this review or perform other writing tasks.
