The Huawei MateBook 14s was officially released in China on September 23 alongside the MateBook 13s. Huawei has yet to launch the 13s in global markets, though. Back to the 14s laptop, it’s available in the UK and Germany with Huawei Takeaway and some special offers.
Huawei MateBook 14s review: Huawei’s best compact laptop The 14.2-inch MateBook 14s sits slightly below the top-of-the-line 13.3-inch MateBook X Pro and above the 14-inch MateBook 14 in Huawei’s lineup, and with both offering similar specs and prices thanks to a Huawei discount, deciding which machine to buy isn’t easy.
That’s not necessarily a problem, though. All of Huawei’s thin and light laptops have something to like, including a high-quality touchscreen, a good keyboard, and commendable build quality.
Like the rest of the MateBook range, the Huawei MateBook 14s is a machine designed for productivity and media consumption rather than gaming or overly demanding creative tasks, but it’s worth noting that Intel’s latest integrated GPU isn’t as powerful as it once was. So fairly intensive graphics tasks and a little light gaming aren’t entirely out of the question. Huawei MateBook 14s review: performance vs. Huawei MateBook 14s battery life
Inside the Huawei MateBook 14s you’ll find a Tiger Lake Core i7-11370H processor, a chip we’ve already seen in the Asus TUF Dash 15 and Acer Predator Triton 300SE. It’s a quad-core component with a top clock speed of 4.8GHz, striking a good balance between power and efficiency.
Expert Reviews’ in-house media benchmark score of 178 puts it on par with category leaders like the Apple MacBook Pro with its M1 chip and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with its AMD Ryzen 7 chip. The Geekbench 5 test also bears this out, with the MateBook performing on par with the best of them. It also performed quite well in our Huawei MateBook 14s battery
drain test, lasting 11 hours and 8 minutes. That’s shorter than the Lenovo’s 15 hours and 40 minutes, but better than the Razer Book 13.
