HP’s thin-and-light 2-in-1 is back and better than ever HP Spectre x360 designUltra-thinAs with any laptop, I first put the HP Spectre x360 through a battery of benchmarks. These included tests like Cinebench R23 to see how the CPU performs, and PCMark10 to see how it holds up to typical office workloads. I also used the latter’s HP Spectre x360 laptop batterytest to see how long it can last on a single charge.
Because this is an ultrabook, I didn’t run any super-heavy programs like Adobe Premiere or Blender with it, as that’s simply not what this laptop is designed forThat being said, this isn’t a laptop you’d expect to use to edit videos in Adobe Premiere. For that, you’d probably want one of the best gaming laptops around. Intel’s onboard graphics have come a long way since the Iris days, but the Spectre x360’s Xe graphics aren’t anywhere near the best GPUs from Nvidia, AMD (or now Intel).
More impressive, though, is the HP Spectre x360 13.5 battery life. Considering the high-resolution OLED and HDR panel, I expected it to underperform. However, I was completely wrong. Then there’s the keyboard – this is one of the most comfortable laptops I’ve used in recent memory. The keys have a good amount of travel distance, and they don’t make too many clicks, considering how thin this laptop is. Speaking of keyboards, I’m a big fan of Cherry MX Brown, and the Spectre didn’t disappoint.
Of course, performance is top of mind for a laptop this expensive, and luckily Intel’s 12th-gen processors can help. The HP Spectre x360 is fast enough to get you through any common office tasks with ease, and its fans don’t hum unless you push it to its limits.
The latter point is worth noting, because it’s a consistent issue I’ve had with the Spectre. These laptops have always been fast, but they’ve also always been very noisy under any kind of stress. This laptop is indeed noisy, but only occasionally. Most of the time, you’ll forget it even has a fan.
I’m not sure if this is an engineering problem on HP’s part or an engineering problem on Intel’s part, but I suspect it’s both. The device’s

lasts up to 11 hours, which is more than enough to last a full workday.
There are plenty of ports, considering the size
The most stable hinge in a 2-in-1 laptop
There are a lot of 2-in-1 laptops out there that start to wobble if you give it any bumps, but I would have never guessed that if I didn’t know the HP Spectre x360 was a 2-in-1. It’s incredibly stable in laptop mode, putting traditional laptops to shame.
Some Overly Memory-Hogging Software My only complaint about the HP Spectre x360 is that HP preinstalls a bunch of software you don’t need. Some of this software is useful if you’re not the type to hunt for drivers and the like on your own, but there are some annoying exceptions.
This practice has become common among laptop manufacturers, and while it has increased recently, the HP Spectre x360 does show that the industry still has room for improvement when it comes to giving users peace of mind.
