There’s a lot to like about the newly released Google Pixel 9A. This affordable phone is the follow-up to the Pixel 8A, one of my favorite phones of 2024, which won the CNET Editors’ Choice Award. With the Pixel 8A, Google has found the best balance between features,Google Pixel 9A phone battery
life, long-term software support, and overall value. Fortunately, on paper, the Pixel 9A seems to be an upgrade over last year’s Pixel 8A in almost every way.
I used the Pixel 9A for about half an hour, and I was impressed by its build (it feels very solid) and new design. I really appreciate that the back of the Pixel 9A is almost completely flat. However, the phone does not have the unique camera bar on the rest of the Pixel 9 series, which at least weakens some of the Pixel qualities of the Pixel 9A in appearance. In terms of photography, the Pixel 9A has a 48-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The new main camera supports Google’s macro focus, which means you can get close to the subject (such as food photos) and keep it in focus. In fact, Google achieved this with the main camera, rather than an ultra-wide-angle camera like many other phones. Pixel 9A performance and Google Pixel 9A phone battery power, Google says the Pixel 9A has the largest battery capacity of all Pixel A devices. When I saw the battery capacity was 5,100 mAh, I double-checked that I didn’t read the specs of the new Galaxy A phones that Samsung announced at MWC.
