Asus VivoBook S510 review: Weak battery life holds this powerful ultralight back

With a thin chassis, a large display, an Intel Core i7 processor, and a midrange price, the Asus VivoBook S510 aims to be a stylish and spacious Ultrabook for those who like to get things done. While we were impressed by its look, feel, and flexibility for everyday office tasks, the S510 fell short in one key area:

Asus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery

Life. The S510’s viewing angles are decent. Yes, the screen dims noticeably when viewed from center, left, right, or up or down at about a 30-degree angle, but charts, documents, and images remain clear, and colors don’t invert when you tilt the screen upward. Keyboard, Trackpad, Speakers, and Webcam

The S510 has a large, backlit keyboard with typical chicklet-style keys. The keys themselves are quite responsive, with a moderate amount of travel and a slightly concave feel. Typists who are used to hitting the keyboard hard (I raise my hand) may notice a bit of flex in the middle of the keyboard, though. Overall Performance

The VivoBook S510’s Core i7-7500U’s performance is predictable for a dual-core chip: responsive for everyday work but sluggish for more demanding, CPU-intensive tasks that quad-core Ultrabooks can easily handle

Life

Battery life is the most interesting, not to mention disappointing, aspect of the Asus VivoBook S510. We test laptop battery life by looping a 4K video file using the Windows 10 Movie & TV app with the volume turned down to half (we kept a pair of headphones plugged in) and the display set to about 250 nits. For the S510, that means the brightness setting is nearly maxed out. Normally, we’d expect a laptop of the VivoBook’s size and weight to last eight or nine hours on our

Asus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery

rundown test. Unfortunately, the S510 lasted just under five hours.

What’s going on? According to Windows Task Manager, the S510’s CPU speed rarely exceeded 1.5GHz during testing (and was actually much lower than the CPU’s idle speed of around 2.5GHz), so an overactive processor isn’t the culprit. A more likely culprit is the 15.6-inch 1080p display, which must be cranked up to meet our minimum standards for room brightness.

Conclusion

The $799 VivoBook S510 looks tempting, with a 15-inch display, strong productivity features, and a generous selection of ports, all crammed into a sleek 3.7-pound chassis. Unfortunately, theAsus VivoBook S510 Laptop Battery life is short, which means you’ll be searching for a power outlet sooner than expected.

Dell XPS 16 (9640) review: An AI computer with unique design and outstanding performance

Dell has a reputation in the tech world for making quality devices. But the reality is that this also usually means that its laptops are pricier. In my experience, I’ve found Dell to be a very trustworthy brand that makes quality products that I can count on. The same can be said of the performance of the XPS 16 (9640).
Dell XPS 16 (9640) Laptop Battery
: 10 hours 16 minutes
It feels durable, with a sturdy chassis and a smooth-moving hinge that makes the lid easy to open or close. I can’t tell you how much I love the soft-touch feel of the material used around the keyboard  The Intel Core Ultra 7 155H can perform local AI functions very quickly, thanks to its NPU.While the RTX 4070 L is a powerful GPU, the graphics performance of this laptop is below expectations. This laptop can be used for playing games, but there are many better gaming laptops on the market that will serve you better. The XPS 16 does a good job of staying relatively cool. When performing daily office tasks at 200 nits of brightness, the laptop can run for more than 10 hours, which is very good.Dell says the battery XPS 16with FHD+ display can last up to 28 hours.
I left the OLED version idle and then turned its brightness down to minimum. In my idle battery test, it lasted about 10 hours.Dell XPS 16 (9640) Laptop Battery
Rating: 5/5
To test battery life, I set the XPS 16 (9640) display to about 200 nits (making the display brightness about 60%), and then ran the Modern Office Battery Test in PCMark 10. This test puts the laptop through a workflow similar to daily office work, such as participating in video conferences, browsing the internet, using various programs, etc.
To my surprise, theDell XPS 16 Laptop Battery
lasted 10 hours and 16 minutes before it ran out of power. I also ran Windows Battery Report, which showed that the Dell XPS 16 (9640) Laptop’s battery life was estimated to be between 10 hours and 22 minutes and 10 hours and 24 minutes. So basically, it’s about the same time as the PCMark 10 Battery Test. Whether you’re working on the go or rushing from class to class at school, this should be enough to keep you going.
Dell XPS 16 (9640) charging.
The Dell XPS 16 (9640) charges using a USB-C charging adapter.
Dell explicitly states that the FHD+ display version of the XPS 16 can last up to 28 hours. However, the battery life of the Dell XPS 16 (9640) laptop is not listed for the OLED model. Out of curiosity, I decided to test the OLED version by leaving the laptop idle and setting the screen brightness to minimum. Overall, theDell XPS 16 (9640) laptop batterylasted for more than 10 hours again before it powered down. As for charging, the laptop comes with a USB-C charging adapter that plugs into one of the USB-C ports for power.

HP’s OmniBook X 14 is a sleek business laptop with great battery life

This Snapdragon-powered laptop is very productive, but unless you have a high-paying job, you can do better. The original Windows Copilot Plus PC had great battery life and was even a few hundred dollars cheaper than Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop. But it was also boring as a business-class product, with a so-so screen and a subpar trackpad.
HP’s new OmniBook X 14 is one of the first laptops to be powered by Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X Elite processor. Like most laptops we’ve seen so far, it’s a thin and light machine designed for productivity tasks and packed with AI-driven goodness
All-day performanceHP OmniBook X 14 laptop battery
Battery life and standby time
Solid overall performance for productivity tasks
Premium chiclet-style keyboard
White looks and feels premium
This is the first Windows laptop I’ve used in a long time that made me worry about the battery. That’s the beauty of combining the efficiency of the Snapdragon X with the OmniBook’s massive 59Wh capacity
HP OmniBook X 14 Laptop Battery
Other Copilot Plus PCs, like the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge, actually have larger batteries, but the OmniBook’s 16:10 60Hz IPS LCD uses less power than brighter, faster OLED displays (more on that later).
If battery life is more important to you than anything else, the OmniBook is worth considering. Its advantages are certainly more pronounced than any of the overhyped AI features that make it a Copilot Plus PC in the first place. But the hardware it inherits from the EliteBook Ultra, like the trackpad, speakers, and screen, makes it cumbersome to use it away from a power outlet for long periods of time.
But that brings us to the speakers, which have always been poor. They’re OK for video calls, but their downward-firing direction (toward the front of the case) makes music sound thin when the laptop is on a table. Put it on your lap, and it sounds like it’s underwater. The upward-firing speakers on many other laptops (including the ones below the MacBook Air’s keyboard) are much better. Even my iPhone 15 Pro sounds slightly better, and the OmniBook’s only advantage is that its two speakers are about 7 inches apart, which gives it the smallest soundstage. But that positioning also means your wrists will often block the speakers while you type. You can also feed the AI Companion a document and it will try to summarize it. In an early briefing with HP, a representative demonstrated how a hiring manager could upload three resumes and have the AI compare the candidates. I can’t stress this enough: This is something you shouldn’t do.

Huawei MateBook 14s review: Huawei’s best compact laptop

Huawei’s laptop lineup hasn’t changed much over the past few years, at least not physically. Sure, the processors have been updated, but if you place the 2019, 2020, and 2021 models of the MateBook 14, MateBook X Pro, or MateBook D15 side by side, you’ll find it hard to tell which is which.

Huawei MateBook 14s review: Performance and Huawei MateBook 14s battery  lifeInside the Huawei MateBook 14s, you’ll find the Tiger Lake Core i7-11370H processor, which we’ve already seen in the Asus TUF Dash 15 and Acer Predator Triton 300SE. It’s a quad-core component with a maximum clock frequency of 4.8 GHz, which strikes a good balance between power consumption and efficiency.
However, the MateBook 14s is a new product rather than an update of an existing model, with fewer Huawei features and new screen specs. Huawei MateBook 14s review: What you need to know
Huawei MateBook 14s review: Design and build qualityI’ve often criticized Huawei for its lack of risk-taking in design. Over the past four years, each subsequent model in its laptop line has looked very similar to the one before it. Its bloody refusal to abandon to the ridiculous placement of the webcam beneath the fake function keys is another stick with which I repeatedly beat it.

Expert Reviews’ internal media benchmark score of 178 puts it on par with leaders like the Apple MacBook Pro with M1 and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with AMD Ryzen 7. In Geekbench 5 testing, the MateBook comes in a close second. It also performed reasonably well on ourLenovo Yoga Slim 7batterydrain test, lasting 11 hours and 8 minutes. That’s shorter than the Lenovo’s 15 hours and 40 minutes, but better than the Razer Book 13’s. In our performance tests, the MateBook 14s was put into performance mode, which increases the processor TDP to a maximum of 45W and makes the fans more powerful.

Huawei MateBook 14s battery test, it was put into Balanced mode, but with the screen refresh rate set to 90Hz instead of the less power-hungry 60Hz. You can switch between refresh rates simply by pressing Fn+R.

Dell XPS 13 (9350) review: Lunar Lake’s defense

Dell’s XPS 13 finally has multiple CPU options. Previously it only came with Intel processors, now it comes with both Intel’s Core Ultra 2 “Lunar Lake” chips and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite. The race for the best ultrabook is on.
We’ve tested the Snapdragon version before, and while Dell’s design was controversial as always, its combination of performance and performance is hard to argue with. That gives us high hopes for the Lunar Lake model.

To push the XPS to its limits, we ran our Cinebench 2024 stress test, which repeats the intense benchmark ten times. The system started in the high 500s, slowly settled in the high 470s, and stayed there. The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V’s P cores ran at an average of 2.5 GHz, while the E cores ran at a higher 2.83 GHz (matching the pattern we saw on the Asus Zenbook S14 with Lunar Lake). The CPU package measured 73.33 degrees Celsius during testing. Keyboard and trackpad on the Dell XPS 13 (9350)As long as Dell sticks with this XPS design, the keyboard and trackpad will continue to be controversial.
I have no problem with the “zero grid” keyboard. While it looks different than most keyboards on the market, the 1mm of key travel feels deeper than expected. On MonkeyType, it took me a little extra time to get used to it, but even on my slowest setting, I was able to type at 99 words per minute.Dell XPS 13 (9350) batterylife
Intel’s big promise with its Core Ultra Series 2 (“Lunar Lake”) chips is to make x86 more efficient than ever before. But with the new XPS 13, that’s also going to depend a lot on what kind of screen you get. Dell sent us a second device with identical specs, except for the 2880 x 1800 OLED panel. It showed a surprising difference in battery life. The latest Dell XPS 13 is more about efficiency than performance. If you buy the version with the 1920 x 1200 screen and forgo the OLED, you’ll get nearly 17 and a half hours of Dell XPS 13 (9350)Laptop Battery life. Not bad.
But there’s actually another XPS 13, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite version, that lasted longer and performed better in our testing. Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 chips offer x86 compatibility. For those who do most of their work in a web browser, the Snapdragon-powered XPS 13 (9345) might be a better choice, and as of this writing, it’s $200 cheaper.
However, if you’re concerned about software compatibility. That leaves x86 as the only option. That being said, other Lunar Lake laptops, like the Asus Zenbook S14, offer more traditional designs, including more accessible headphone jacks and standard function keys. It’s great to see Dell offering a variety of processors in its flagship laptop. It’s time to make it available to more people.
The Intel version offers more app compatibility and longer battery life, but it doesn’t perform as well as the Qualcomm version. If you want a Dell XPS 13 with an x86 processor, the XPS 13 (9350) is the way to go. But if you’re not worried about app compatibility, the Intel version will be challenged by Dell’s embrace of Qualcomm.
Dell XPS 13 (9350) DesignHow have I not seen this movie?
While Dell first introduced this chassis in 2022, the XPS 13 Plus (which, in the world of laptop design, isn’t that long ago), I feel like I’ve seen it plenty of times before, as Dell has released multiple versions from both chip companies. The XPS 13
All aluminum, with clean lines, the lid (at least on our model) and deck are all black. Open it up, and you’ll find the most controversial laptop design choice in Dell’s lineup: a row of capacitive trackpads above the keyboard with no spaces between the keys (Dell calls it a “zero grid”).
There’s also a haptic trackpad, but you can’t see it. There’s no bezel, so the wrist rest looks very clean.
Dell’s minimalist aesthetic also shows in the severe lack of ports. There’s a Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C port on each side of the laptop. That’s it. No headphone jack, no SD card slot. Nothing. These are for people who buy the XPS 14 and 16, because apparently listening to music is a professional thing. On our file-transfer test, the XPS 13 (9350) was the fastest of the bunch, copying a 25GB file at 1,533.85 MBps. That beats the Snapdragon-based XPS 13 (9345)’s 1,342.05 MBps and other competitors.
On Handbrake, the XPS 13 showed off Lunar Lake’s weakness in multi-core performance. It took the system 8 minutes and 35 seconds to transcode a 4K video to 1080p, just ahead of the Zenbook’s 8 minutes and 28 seconds. The Snapdragon-based Dell XPS 13 (9345) beat the competition in 4 minutes and 47 seconds.90V7W 56WH Battery Replacement for Dell XPS 13 9343 9350 JD25G 5K9CP DIN02

Razer Blade 15 (9th Gen) review: Still as sharp as ever

Sharp as everThe design of the updated Razer Blade 15 hasn’t changed much since last year when Razer introduced a revamped, angular design that’s sleeker than before. Sure, the laptop’s dimensions did change a bit, but those adjustments are minor in the millimeter range, and the overall look of the laptop remains largely the same.
The Blade 15 now comes in two flavors—the base model and the “Premium” model (without any special designation). The former only supports up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU and, at 19.9mm, is thicker than its more powerful siblings. It does have something the Premium model doesn’t, though, which is a Gigabit Ethernet port.
The Premium model, meanwhile, will feature an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU and offer more advanced display options, including a screen with up to a 240Hz refresh rate. How’s the battery life on the 80WhRazer Blade 15 Laptop Battery?
I tested the battery life using PCMark 10’s new Modern Office and Gaming
Razer Blade 15 Laptop Battery
Life benchmarks. All laptops had their display brightness set to 100 percent and Wi-Fi enabled. Keyboard backlighting was disabled.
Battery life on the Blade 15 is decent for a laptop in this class, thanks to its 80Wh battery. It’s still a ways off from truly being the best in its class, though, as both Acer and Gigabyte’s Razer Blade 15 laptops last longer. In our portability index, which takes into account factors like chassis size, weight, andRazer Blade 15 laptop batterylife, the Blade 15 fared pretty well. It lost out to the Acer and Gigabyte laptops, but it’s still much better than the likes of the Lenovo Legion Y740. To sum it up — it’s not amazing, but it’s OK.
One thing to note is that the Blade 15’s surface temperatures were noticeably higher than competing laptops. I measured the temperatures after running 40 rounds of 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme, which gave the laptop plenty of time to perform.
That being said, while the Blade 15 can get pretty hot, I wouldn’t be too concerned. It gets warm, but not uncomfortably so, and more importantly, the WASD cluster doesn’t overheat.

Redmi Note 14 Pro shockingly released: new 7nm Gen3 processor and 1.5K screen attract attention

Hello everyone! Next week, we will usher in the new release of the Redmi Note 14 series. Judging from the latest official information, the Note 14 Pro is undoubtedly the leader in the series, claiming to be the most elegant Note so far. In terms of appearance, the Note 14 Pro brings two new colors, Phantom Blue and Twilight Purple, and the back shell adopts a contrasting color design, which is very eye-catching. The hyperboloid design not only makes the back of the phone fit the palm more closely, providing a comfortable grip, but also the addition of the curved screen makes the operation experience smoother.6200mAh Jinshajiang Redmi Note 14 series Battery

It is worth mentioning that since the Note 13 Pro series last year, Redmi has popularized the curved screen design of high-end flagships to the Note series. This time, the Note 14 Pro continues to use an independently customized 1.5K resolution screen. Obviously, Redmi has made some efforts to continuously promote screen display technology.
On the development path of the Note series, Redmi has made strategic adjustments. The Note series, which used to focus on performance, now has its own Turbo series, which means that the subsequent Redmi Note series will no longer simply pursue performance, but will focus more on the popularization of flagship-level technologies, such as curved screens, 90W fast charging, AI technology, large-bottom imaging, etc., which are all concrete manifestations of this strategy. Overall, the Redmi Note 14 Pro is not only mature and elegant in design, but its hardware configuration and comprehensive technological applications also show Redmi’s deep understanding and rapid response to market demand. For those users who are looking for high cost performance and are unwilling to compromise on product experience, the Note 14 Pro is undoubtedly a choice worthy of attention. Let us look forward to its official debut together.

Asus Zenbook 15 OLED review: Stylish and solid in every way

ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: DISPLAY
I have to say this is the standout feature of this laptop. The name really says it all, as you’ll find a 15.6-inch OLED display front and center with a peak brightness of 550 nits and a resolution of 2880 x 1620 (16:9 aspect ratio). ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED batteryHaving tested many of the best gaming laptops, all of which had short battery life, I’m happy to be able to tell you that the Zenbook 15 OLED should last for more than a few hours.
ASUS claims the 67Wh battery should last up to 13 hours, but I haven’t quite gotten that level of performance. The battery drained by 20% while streaming The Grand Budapest Hotel on Disney+ for 1 hour and 40 minutes (full brightness). That’s not bad – 500 minutes, so over 8 and a half hours at full brightness on Wi-Fi – and in more general use, you’ll easily get over 10 hours of ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED batterylife on a single charge. The only real issue is the MacBook Air 15-inch, which easily managed 15 hours of MacBook Air 15-inch battery
life when running a similar streaming test. This is probably two-thirds better.ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: PERFORMANCEThe Zenbook model we reviewed was the “UM3504,” which comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 (7000 series) processor, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and AMD Radeon graphics. What does that mean in English? It should be more than capable of handling any average task you throw at it. Basically, if you’re not a professional video editor or a hardcore gamer, you won’t have any problems here.
In terms of noise output, it’s not completely fanless like the MacBook Air, but it’s fairly quiet – it only gets noticeably hot when you’re gaming. As for heat, the bottom can get pretty hot, but the top stays cool at all times.
If you’re into benchmarks, then you might be interested to know that in our Geekbench test, this Zenbook scored 2064 for single-core CPU and 9475 for multi-core. Meanwhile, the GPU measured 28,787 – certainly respectable, but proof that this isn’t a dedicated gaming machine.
ASUS ZENBOOK 15 OLED REVIEW: FEATURES I must admit, I really like the Zenbook’s keyboard and trackpad. There’s plenty of room for precise typing compared to 13-inch machines, and there’s even a number pad (oh my goodness). The arrow keys do feel a little squeezed, but otherwise, it’s pretty good.
If you’re looking for a party trick, this laptop even comes with a 180-degree hinge that allows it to lay completely flat. This could be very useful if you have a standing desk, but otherwise, it’s a bit niche.
In terms of connectivity, these ultra-thin laptops often forgo useful connectors for the sake of fashion, but the Zenbook does a great job. It has one USB-C 4.0, one USB-C 3.2, and even an old-school “fat” USB-A, as well as an HDMI 2.1 port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 (PHN14-51-97UA) laptop review: Compacts dominate

Gaming laptops seem to be increasingly diverse. They are “disguised” as working models, stripped of bright color accents and characteristic shapes. This trend has been going on for several years. Intel further added to the confusion by releasing a series of Core Ultra processors Meteor Lake. Users may have the impression that the new chips are designed for thin and energy-efficient devices. But this is indeed the case. Thanks to the optimization of various types of data processing (insert magical terms about artificial intelligence here), they can generate decent indicators for games and content editors and ensure good autonomy. Watermark All this in some form is well reflected in the Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 model.Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 (PHN14-51-97UA) Battery:76 Wh, Li-ion (4 cells)Design and ergonomicsThe Predator Helios Neo 14 (PHN14-51-97UA) is one of the first products of Acer on the Ukrainian market with the new processors, and although there are no major changes in terms of design, it has its own chip and can run an efficient working mode. The keyboard area is also very concise. This is an option without a number block, in line with the compact laptop as a whole. However, even the arrows do not suffer due to the compact format. All keys are located in convenient places. Shift, Enter and Backspace have an optimal length and there is almost nothing to complain about. Except for our usual. The power key is installed in the keyboard area. It is placed next to the start key of proprietary utilities and multimedia control keys, so that to some extent it is isolated from the most frequently requested area. However, the button for changing the cooling mode is still designed separately. Watermark We don’t even “know” which button is more important to accidentally press while skating. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 is another good solution in the compact gaming laptop class near a workstation.
