Meizu 21 Pro will be its swan song

Meizu is exiting the smartphone space, with the brand revealing it will release one more phone as its swan song as it transitions to artificial intelligence. Called Meizu 21, the brand teased the phone on its social media and revealed that it will come with a 6.79 -inch display. Judging from the teaser images, the Meizu 21 Pro appears to be less boxy than the 20 Pro, with the side of the phone pointing towards a curved AMOLED panel. If the renders are accurate, we’re looking at a phone with almost no bezels, and it appears to be even thinner than the already slim bezels on the 20 Pro.

Meizu hasn’t revealed details about the 21 Pro, but its CEO claims it has advanced AI concepts that can beat those on the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra and Huawei Pocket 2. Since we are talking about AI, we assume that the 21 Pro will most likely use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Meizu 20 ProMeizu will reveal more details about the 21 Pro and the future of its phones on February 29 in China. While we are waiting, Meizu CEO also revealed that FlymeOS will be reorganized and that Meizu will develop AI terminals for LLM such as OpenAI in the future .

Our Nubia Red Magic 3 video review is out

When the third entry in the Nubia Red Magic series was announced, it grabbed all the headlines with its powerful specs, modest price, and tag. With gaming phones becoming increasingly popular, Nubia aims to offer a top-notch solution for mobile gamers with its Red Magic 3. Even if you’re not a hardcore gamer, this device is still worth your attention for its rich spec sheet and affordable price. Some of its highlights include a built-in cooling fan, customizable rear LED strip, and 8K video recording. Plus, it’s equipped with a flagship Snapdragon 855 and up to 12 GB of RAM, so performance isn’t compromised either.
The display is a 6.65-inch AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and stereo speakers, making it great for content consumption. Of course, the design of the Red Magic 3 won’t appeal to everyone with its sharp lines and gorgeous aesthetics, but it’s built pretty solid thanks to its aluminum construction. If you value extra gaming convenience, then the Red Magic 3 has you covered. It has a dedicated hardware switch on the top left that triggers Nubia’s Game Space UI, giving you quick access to all your games. There, you can also customize settings for specific games as well as control the cooling fan. The phone also comes with capacitive shoulder triggers, which come in handy during shooters. The 5,000 mAhNubia Red Magic 3 phone batteryensures uninterrupted gaming sessions and supports Quick Charge 4+. It’s also worth noting that the phone runs Red Magic OS 2.0 on top of Android 9 Pie, which makes the experience pretty smooth due to its stock-like nature.

Oppo Reno 10 5G: Cameras, display, battery and everything you need to know

Oppo’s Reno 10 smartphone series, which comprises the Oppo Reno 10 5G, Oppo Reno 10 Pro and Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus, has officially launched in various regions across the world, but only the first of those devices is available in the UK.
Positioned as a mid-range photography powerhouse, the Oppo Reno 10 5G arrives as the successor to the Oppo Reno 9, which itself succeeded the Oppo Reno 8. The latter phone was the last Reno device to ship in Western markets, though, so – for the most part – we’ll be comparing the Oppo Reno 10 5G to that phone throughout this guide.
Below, you’ll find detailed camera, display, design, performance and Oppo Reno 10 5G battery specs for the Oppo Reno 10 5G, along with price and availability information.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: Price & availabilityThe Oppo Reno 10 5G in pinkThe Oppo Reno 10 5G launched in the UK on August 24, 2023, and is available to purchase from EE or Oppo’s website directly.
The phone’s single 8GB RAM / 256GB storage variation costs £399, though it’s worth noting that both RAM and storage capacities can be expanded. For comparison, the Oppo Reno 8 retailed for £419 / AU$999 at launch, so the Oppo Reno 10 5G undercuts its predecessor in the price department.
In all likelihood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G will be coming to Europe and Australia, too, but Oppo hasn’t yet shared release date or pricing information for either region. As with other Oppo products in 2023, US consumers look set to miss out on the Oppo Reno 10 5G.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: SpecsHere’s a breakdown of the key specs offered by the Oppo Reno 10 5G:Oppo Reno 10 5G: Design & display
Oppo Reno 10 5GOn the design and display front, the Oppo Reno 10 5G measures 162.4 x 74.2 x 8 mm and weighs 185g, meaning it’s a touch larger and heavier than the Oppo Reno 8.
That bigger frame does, however, allow the Oppo Reno 10 5G to pack a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen than its predecessor, with the newer phone also boasting an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio.
The phone’s refresh rate sits at 120Hz, and its display offers HDR10+ support and 950 nits of peak brightness. The screen itself is slightly curved, too, with Oppo describing the Reno 10 5G as having a “3D dual curved design.”
There’s an under-display fingerprint scanner, and the phone – which is available in the UK in one color: Silvery Grey (yes, that’s the official name) – is wrapped in a fingerprint-resistant coating.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: CamerasOppo is marketing the Reno 10 5G as “The Portrait Expert,” which says something about what the company considers to be the phone’s biggest strength.
The Reno 10 5G boasts a three-lens rear camera setup comprising a 64MP wide-angle lens (f/1/7), a 32MP telephoto lens (f/2.0) and an 8MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2). The second of that lineup is what earns the phone its “Portrait Expert” title, with the telephoto lens offering a 47mm focal length and marking the first of its kind in the Oppo Reno range.
The Reno 10 5G offers a Pro-Portrait mode, too, which supposedly preserves the skin tone of subjects and puts “Pro aesthetics” at your disposal. On the selfie-snapping front, the Reno 10 5G packs a 32MP camera.
Oppo has told us that the Reno 10 5G is equipped with “by far the strongest set of cameras for where this phone sits in the market,” so we’re excited to put this setup to the test.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: Performance & Oppo Reno 10 5G batteryPromotional poster for the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipsetThe Oppo Reno 10 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, which isn’t a processor we’re particularly familiar with. That said, the Dimensity 7050 is an objectively superior chipset to the Dimensity 1300 chipset used in the Oppo Reno 8, and since that phone already delivers solid performance for its mid-range price, we expect the Dimensity 7050 to deliver an even smoother scrolling and gaming experience.
Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G packs a hefty 5,000 mAh Oppo Reno 10 5G battery, which should reliably see you through a whole day of moderate to heavy use.
The phone comes bundled with Oppo’s 67W fast charger in the box – which isn’t a given these days (looking at you, Apple and Samsung) – and the company claims that you’ll be able to fully recharge the Reno 10 5G in just 47 minutes using this charger.
There’s no wireless charging capabilities, unfortunately, but that’s to be expected for a phone in this price range.
In terms of updates, Oppo says the Reno 10 5G will be supported with two years’ worth of Android updates and four years’ worth of security updates.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: Sweet and familiar

After five generations of product iterations, Samsung seems to have basically nailed down the positioning of its flagship foldable phone (pun intended). The Galaxy Z Fold 5 looks very similar to its two predecessors, and aside from the processor and the (still) impressive hinge, the rest of the specs are exactly the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. How 2023 interacts. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5Good Good build quality, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 long battery life, high-quality camera performance, consistent performanceBest Android update strategyBad Under-screen selfie camera still noticeable, design feels stagnant, 25W charging isn’t fast, still lacks a stylus garage, gets hot under demanding tasksStill expensiveSamsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date and priceLike the rest of Samsung’s lineup, the Fold series is well established and has a regular annual update cycle. In 2023, Samsung actually chose to launch the Fold 5 earlier than usual, which left the flagship phone without Qualcomm’s traditional mid-year processor update, which Qualcomm usually provides for Folds. Worse, the shorter development time seems to have held back upgrades to the camera, screen, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 battery, and charging compared to the 2022 model.

Samsung spent most of its energy highlighting the technically impressive Flex Hinge on the 2023 Fold 5, which allows the phone to fold flat without the gap between the two halves that have been present in all of the company’s previous foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 follows the overall design of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 4, with the camera module undergoing a minor cosmetic change. However, its new “Flex Hinge” is new to the series and leaves no noticeable gap when the phone is closed. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 still has an IPX8 water-resistance rating, but it’s not dust-proof. An aluminum frame returns, holding the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back and cover display together (up from Victus+ on the Fold 4). In daily use, those who “join the flip (folding?)” will need time to get used to the extra weight compared to a regular smartphone, but it’s worth noting that the Fold 5 is noticeably lighter than the Google Pixel Fold I tested a few weeks ago. The same overall design means the ergonomics are well-tested, and the placement of buttons when the device is closed is perfectly fine, including the fingerprint reader.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 displayThe Galaxy Z Fold 5’s inner and outer cover displays have the same diagonal dimensions of 7.6 inches and 6.2 inches, respectively. One noticeable change compared to the Fold 4 is the peak brightness, which reaches an impressive 1750 nits, which is more than enough for outdoor readability. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 performanceSamsung continues to equip its Galaxy Fold phones with the best processors available for Android, and for 2023, that means a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Memory specs are similarly high-end, with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 CameraAnyone who read the Fold 4 review here at nextpit will probably have a strong flashback when reading the Galaxy Z Fold 5 camera impressions. We’d like to believe Samsung liked the camera suite on the Fold 4 so much that they thought it deserved another round: the 50-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, and 10-megapixel 3x zoom telephoto lenses are back with similar results to last season. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 BatterySamsung announced an “optimized” Samsung Galaxy  batteryfor the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but didn’t say what that meant. In our testing, the flagship foldable performed very well, especially when using the cover display primarily. On paper, though, Samsung retained the same specs we found in the Fold 4.

Pros:The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has great Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 batterylife. PCMark’s battery test confirmed our real-world impressions, with an excellent score of 17 hours and 14 minutes on the external display and 10 hours and 21 minutes on the internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Oddly, the latter score is exactly the same as the Google Pixel Fold, which scored 14 hours and 30 minutes on the external display.

Why the Vivo V30 is better than the Google Pixel 7a

I bought a Google Pixel 7a last year with one goal in mind: to consistently produce content about photography and skating for my social media. It didn’t disappoint, and it’s clearly one of the best budget phones out there. However, it wasn’t long before my phone’s internal memory filled up, and Google started suggesting I pay for additional storage.
This isn’t surprising, because 1) I’m always taking screenshots to remind myself of things I need to do later (which never works, but that doesn’t mean it stops me); 2) I’m a photographer (self-explanatory, right?); and 3) I frequently use my Google Pixel 7a to shoot and edit content for both personal social media and AP. I also like to keep a few drafts on Instagram and TikTok so I can plan what and when I share each week. Add in the usual storage apps like WhatsApp and Outlook, and I’m down to about 1GB of my total 128GB storage. Granted, the Vivo V30 has a whopping 512GB of storage in comparison, so it’s not really a competitor.
When I reviewed the Vivo V30 Smartphone Battery
was surprised to see how much easier the camera app makes your life when it comes to organizing and resizing images. You can see how big the image is and can reduce the image quality and resolution to save a smaller version of the image. You can also compress videos.
You can see the size of the file on the Google Pixel 7a, but its editing tools don’t allow you to resize the file. Because of this, the Vivo V30 is starting to become where I store my content, my “work phone” so to speak.Google Pixel 7a Smartphone BatteryGoogle GP5JE Li-ion battery is a new brand and it is compatible with 100% original and replacement batteries. While I don’t regret buying the Pixel 7a at all (although maybe not long after the Pixel 8a is released), as a junior content creator, having a second phone is particularly useful.

Oukitel C3 review: An entry-level device that ticks all the boxes

Over the past year, we have tested several devices from Oukitel, most of which were battery monsters. But Oukitel is not a one-trick pony and there are other phones in its lineup that are not solely focused on offering high-capacity batteries. This time, the company has released a budget smartphone that aims to offer great value for money. Priced at under $60, the C3 is one of the most affordable Android Marshmallow smartphones in the market. Let’s see if it can make a name for itself in the entry-level segment. Hardware and DesignFor a price of under $60, I don’t expect the C3 to feature a fancy metal construction or other exotic materials, but the plastic construction of the device feels pretty good in the hand and is adequate in this case. I got the Electric Blue version, which I personally find too shiny and would have been better with a black or dark blue version. The smartphone has a textured back that is said to be inspired by diamonds.
Aside from the textured back, the overall design of the smartphone is pretty standard, but the smartphone does grab attention with its color. There’s nothing wrong with the minimalist design of the C3 and Oukitel didn’t take any risks in that regard. Even the placement of the buttons, camera and speaker are pretty ordinary. The volume and power keys are located on the right side of the device, while the micro USB slot and headphone jack are located at the top.
The speaker is located at the bottom right corner of the back of the smartphone, the microphone is located at the bottom edge, and the rear camera is located at the top center, next to the LED flash. The front of the smartphone is home to the speaker grille, proximity and ambient light sensors on one side, and the front camera on the other.
The smartphone does not have any physical navigation keys, instead it relies on capacitive buttons located at the bottom of the screen. It must be noted that the capacitive buttons do not glow, which was a bit of an issue until I got used to the device.
DisplayThe Oukitel C3 features a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720p, which translates to 294 pixels per inch. The screen is decent for an entry-level phone, with decent viewing angles and is easily readable in sunlight. Audio and Call QualityThe call quality on most phones these days is nothing to complain about. The C3’s call quality was also decent, but the phone’s proximity sensor failed to work properly a few times, and I ended up randomly pressing the dial button with my face.
The speaker is located at the bottom right corner, which results in muffled sound if you hold it too tightly or place it flat on a surface. Even when not covered, the volume is not enough on the normal setting, but it can be boosted using the internal audio boost setting. There are two system-level audio enhancement features for the speaker and earphones, each with movie and music modes.
Since this smartphone does not come with earphones, I tested the audio output using my own earphones, and the results were quite good. The sound was clear and loud enough, and the bass was adequate, even without the digital enhancements enabled. The earphones also have a bass booster setting, but I found the sound better without it, as it created some muffled sound in music that already had a lot of bass.
CameraLike its predecessor, the Oukitel C3’s cameras are not very good. Moreover, they seem to use interpolation and lack proper image optimization. That being said, they are not completely useless, but you will not want to use them to capture special moments. The video quality on the C3’s highest setting is also quite poor. The camera is capable of shooting videos at 1080p resolution, but obviously the numbers don’t tell the whole story. For imaging, the device is absolutely no good.
SoftwareUnlike most smartphones in its price range, the Oukitel C3 comes pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is pretty close to stock Android. The smartphone’s launcher is only slightly different from stock Android, but even that’s not a stretch. Oukitel has brought back the app drawer in the latest version of the launcher, but has kept the MIUI-like icons.BatteryThe 2000 mAh battery of the Oukitel C3 isn’t much by current standards, and a 700-800 mAh battery would have made this smartphone more than adequate. With frequent calls, nearly half an hour of browsing, and intermittent instant messaging, the device lasted about 14 hours. On busy days, the battery life was even less, as the device struggled to make it through the night.
Oukitel has come up with its own battery saving app, which works pretty well in such conditions.Oukitel Smartphone Batterysaver,Oukitel C3 Smartphone Battery
I managed to get an extra 5 hours of standby time after reaching 10% charge. The app turns off data connection, reduces brightness to minimum and disables syncing to achieve extra standby time.
The phone does not support any fast charging mechanism and it takes about 2.5 hours to charge the battery from zero to 100%.
Oukitel C3 Smartphone Battery
Filling from 50% is pretty fast but draining to 50% is also fast.
ConclusionThe Oukitel C3 performs well and I don’t think there are any drawbacks to this smartphone for the average user except for the camera. Although this device is targeted at budget smartphone buyers, it feels a bit better than most devices of the same price range from Indian manufacturers that I have used. The battery of thisOukitel C3 smartphone  batterycould have been a bit bigger but considering the price, there is nothing to complain about.

Samsung Galaxy On5 review: There are better cheap phones

While it looks like the On5 is a good value for the money, the slower performance, very limited storage, and poor Galaxy On5  smartphone batteryThe life of the Galaxy On5 makes it not worth buying. Every cheap phone has some form of compromise. And for the $129 Galaxy On5 (which you can get unlocked or for as low as $29 at MetroPCS), there are so many compromises that it’s not worth spending so little on a phone running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Design: Retro Basic The Galaxy On5 looks and feels like a retro phone, complete with a physical home button below the display, a plastic back, and a microUSB port for charging.

The bezels around the screen are also pretty thick, though that’s to be expected in this price range.
It’s nice to see a user-replaceable Galaxy On5 battery on a phone in 2018. You just slide your fingertip under the cutout on the back left side and pop off the cover.
The On5 only has 8GB of storage, 4.1GB of which is taken up by the system before you even take the phone out of the box. From there you can swap out the  Galaxy On5 battery , as well as access the SIM card slot and microSD card slot, both of which sit above the battery compartment.
Another plus: The On5 has a slightly gritty texture on the back, which keeps the phone from slipping out of your hands. There’s a headphone jack next to the microUSB on the bottom edge of the phone.
Storage: 8GB isn’t enoughI ran into trouble early in my Galaxy On5 experience. After downloading a few benchmarking apps to test the device, the On5 wouldn’t download Rules of Survival, one of the most popular games on the Google Play Store. Only after deleting the benchmarks was I was able to play the game on the device, but even then it wouldn’t fully download all the latest updates to allow me to start playing.
More: The cheapest unlocked smartphones
The reason? The On5 has only 8GB of storage, and the system took up 4.1GB before I even took it out of the box. I scaled back and instead downloaded the smaller, more casual Sausage Run (155 MB).

The number one reason not to buy the Samsung On5, besides the lack of storage, is its slow performance. The good news is that the On5 supports microSD cards up to 128GB, and you can buy one for $41. Or you can get a 64GB card for $19.99. But for a little more money, you can get a better all-around phone, like the Moto G5 Plus ($184 for Prime members) or the Honor 7X ($199 for 32GB), which both have 64GB of built-in storage.
Display: Colorful but not sharpThe On5’s 5-inch display has a lower resolution of 1,280 by 720 pixels, while other phones get full HD screens for just a little more money. While watching the Black Panther trailer, Angela Bassett’s white dress with yellow trim looked smudgy on the screen, and Chadwick Boseman’s costume was hard to see and completely submerged in shadow.

At least the panel is fairly colorful, with 106.9 percent color gamut coverage. Brightness wasn’t very high, though, at just 357 nits. The ZTE Blade Z Max, available for $119 through MetroPCS, has a brighter 510-nit screen and a 1,920-by-1,080 resolution.
Performance: Severe lagThe No. 1 reason not to buy the Samsung On5, besides the lack of storage, is its slow performance.
After restarting the phone, I tried to launch the camera, and the app took six seconds to fully load. Incredibly, I closed the app and launched it again. This time it took 2.5 seconds, which is an improvement, but still terrible.
The On5 has lags all over the place. I noticed noticeable lags when launching the keyboard to enter a URL, as well as when closing the app.
Powered by a 1.3-GHz Exynos 3475 processor and 1.5GB of RAM, the On5 performed well on the Geekbench 4 benchmark, which measures overall performance. The Samsung phone scored 1,237, less than half as well as the ZTE Blade Z Max and its Snapdragon 435 processor and 2GB of RAM.
CameraThe phone has a 5-megapixel camera on the back with an LED flash and a 2-megapixel camera on the front, so you shouldn’t expect much from the On5 in terms of imaging prowess.Galaxy On5 BatteryLifeBattery life isn’t great on the Galaxy On5. In the Tom’s Guide Battery Test, which involves continuous web surfing over LTE, the phone lasted just 7 hours and 51 minutes. That’s nearly 2 hours less than the smartphone average and well behind the ZTE Blade Z Max (11:23) and the Moto G5 Plus (11:43). Neither of those phones is expensive, so Smartphone battery life isn’t an area where you need to compromise for budget-conscious shoppers.
ConclusionDon’t be tempted by the Galaxy On5’s low price. MetroPCS sells much better budget phones, like the ZTE Blade Z Max, which has a sharper, larger display, a nicer metal design, more powerful performance, and longer  Galaxy phone battery  life than the Galaxy phones. Plus, it runs newer Android 7.1, while the On5 runs older Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and comes with 32GB of storage.

If you go the unlocked route, take a close look at the Moto G5 Plus, which offers many of the same benefits as the Blade Z Max and works on all major carriers. It doesn’t seem fair to compare the old Galaxy On5 to these newer phones, but Samsung still sells it. It should probably stop selling it now.
