How do the prints work? In short, I’d say: pretty good. The print resolution of 300 x 300 dpi might not sound great, but since dye-sublimation printers (unlike inkjets) are able to layer different colors on top of each other, the results are much better than this statistic would suggest. Remarkably, the Canon Selphy CP1500 prints quickly, churning out a 4 x 6-inch photo in about 41 seconds. And the prints look pretty durable, too. That’s because once the cyan, magenta, and yellow dyes are added (disturbingly, you’ll see the process step-by-step), the printer adds an anti-smudge, anti-fingerprint coating to the paper. Canon estimates this means your prints will last up to 100 years, but that claim is obviously hard to test in practice. ; The downside is that the prints will also be smaller. Another option is to opt for an inkjet photo printer, such as the Canon PIXMA TS6350, although it will be larger, less portable, and more expensive to run.
