Energy ConsumptionThe Aorus 15 XE5 consumes too much power when idle, consuming around 31 to 46 watts, sometimes even up to 80 watts in the worst cases. Comparing the XE5 to its competitors gives a rough idea of how much power an Optimus-enabled laptop should consume when idle. This high power consumption is likely due to a bug. The problem persists even when disabling the AI Boost feature. So we’ll have to wait and see if Gigabyte is able to fix this with software or a BIOS update.
Throughout the stress test and The Witcher 3 test, the laptop’s power consumption remained stable and at a level that’s normal for the hardware. The included charger has more than enough capacity to power the laptop and was able to handle momentary spikes that exceeded its output rating (240 watts).
