Design and buildFeels great in the hand Unique back texture Large displayNeither the Nokia C21 Plus we reviewed last year nor the Nokia G21 before it were ugly budget phones, but the Nokia G60 5G is simply a cut above the rest.
It’s very sturdy, without any noticeable creaking, and weighs just the right amount at 190g; not too light to feel premium, nor too heavy to feel like a brick.
The actual setup is pretty standard – a large 6.58-inch display on the front, with cameras tucked into the bezels for selfies and facial recognition. There’s a USB-C port and a headphone jack on the bottom (the latter seems to be the sole domain of cheap and mid-range devices these days), and a power button and volume rocker on the side. There’s a vertically stacked triple camera on the back, housed in a fairly subtle bump, but the most striking thing is the back panel itself. It’s hard to capture it in photos (I did my best with my black review unit), but it has a slightly textured finish, and the panel itself looks like reflective metal.

The IPS display is harder to complain about than the previous C21 Plus or G21, though, as it has a resolution of 2400×1080 – just above what you’d define as Full HD. This makes it more convenient for watching YouTube or the latest Netflix show on the train, but you’ll naturally find the pricier devices more appealing – blacks don’t always have the right depth (OLED excels in this regard), but colors are solid throughout. One big advantage of the Nokia G60 5G is its 120Hz refresh rate, but the implementation could be better. At the time of writing, you can’t push that refresh rate to its limit, and the phone decides when you need that smoothness.
While it’s true that the Nokia G60 5G can’t compete with flagships and more premium offerings, I’m happy to say that the device has enough power to feel capable.
That’s thanks to Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 695 processor and 64 or 128GB of storage. RAM is just 4GB, so don’t load too many apps at once.
Browsing emails, tweeting, and replying to messages was as smooth as anywhere else, but it was the gaming performance that impressed me most. On the front-facing camera front, it’s business as usual – the 8Mp sensor isn’t any better or worse than photos taken by similar devices.Nokia G60 batterylife and charging4500mAh battery20W chargingNo adapter includedI was impressed with Nokia’s PCMark 3.0 battery life benchmark, with 14 and a half hours of screen-on time, but in general use, it felt like it could have lasted forever. I was able to get almost two days of use out of it, and that was with a 4,500 mAh battery – which of course makes me wonder if a 5,000 mAh Nokia G60 battery is possible, given the size of the phone. That’s just a minor quibble, though.
As you’d expect, there’s no charger in the box in the interest of reducing e-waste, but instead a USB-C to USB-C cable is provided. If you do buy a charger, you’ll be able to enjoy fast charging at up to 20W. In my testing, the phone was at 14% after 15 minutes of charging with the adapter plugged in, and 26% after 30 minutes. Nokia promises three years of OS upgrades, which is longer than many pricier phonesThe Nokia G60 5G is still very respectful of its users, offering stock Android 12 (although 13 is the latest version). Even after the initial setup, the apps are very uncluttered and ready to use from the get-go, which is a real positive.
