The Esquire 2 is where the premium lifestyle brand comes in to the overcrowded Bluetooth market. For most brands, standing out is hard, but the Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is different. It’s a premium Bluetooth speaker from a luxury brand that doesn’t come cheap. But is it all about looks and premium feel, or does it actually perform well in terms of sound quality? Let’s find out. Build and Design: 9/10 The Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is a well-designed speaker. Like all Harman Kardon designs, it looks simple, sophisticated, and refined.
It has a solid plastic grille on the front and a leatherette back, from which the kickstand pops out. The speaker is surrounded by an aluminum finish, with indicator lights on the left and action buttons on the top.
harman-kardon-esquire-2-backThe Esquire 2 weighs just 600 grams and is slightly taller than a clutch. In fact, it doesn’t look like a speaker in the traditional sense at all.

harman-kardon-esquire-2-topThe right side of the device has a microUSB charging port, an auxiliary 3.5mm jack, and a regular USB port, so you can use it to charge your smartphone or tablet. Very nice! harman-kardon-esquire-2-USB connectionsThe Premium Skimp Esquire 2 undoubtedly packs a lot of surprises, the biggest of which is that despite its high price, there are virtually no accessories. There’s just a flat USB cable in the box, and that’s it. There’s no charger, no auxiliary cable, and no bag to carry the speaker in (the bag is sold separately). A device that costs less than half the price comes with more accessories than Harman Kardon’s Esquire 2.Performance: 9/10 We tested the Esquire 2 with an Android phone connected to a Windows PC via Bluetooth via a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.
Overall, these are excellent Bluetooth speakers, and they get surprisingly loud without feeling like they’re trying too hard. Sure, we’ve heard louder sound from the larger Bose Sound dock V2 portable speaker, but for its size, the Esquire 2 performs very well. The complaint most people have about Bluetooth speakers is that they usually sound mono because there’s only one speaker in such a small box. The Harman Kardon Esquire 2 solves this problem by actually inserting four different “professionally tuned” sound drivers and a passive radiator (reflex port) into the box instead of two. The resulting sound is satisfyingly rich stereo, rather than the cramped mono sound that most Bluetooth speakers produce.
You’ll notice that the speaker handles bass very well. No matter which track I played, the Esquire 2 handled the sound very well. Of course, the speaker does lack extreme low-end bass, which was evident in Charlie Puth’s Betty Boop (Original Mix), which gives the bass very deep and can really give any speaker a workout. Surprisingly, the Esquire 2 handled this track very well. Most Bluetooth speakers can’t produce sub-bass at all, and neither can the Esquire 2, but what the Esquire 2 produces is rich bass while playing tracks loudly without gasping for air. All the music played is full and layered. While you’ll definitely hear round and rich bass and low-mids, the mids and highs are no slouch either. The highs and mids are crisp, bright, and prominent. The vocals sound especially good, with the Aventine track by Agnes Obel especially highlighting the singer’s voice, and the violin score is also very beautiful, with a full and rounded sound. Call Quality: 9/10 Call quality is excellent, with voices loud and clear, although the other party may experience a hollow or “speaking through a tube” effect, which is a problem with all Bluetooth speakers. With the “quad mics”, the speaker can easily capture sounds from all directions without a problem, and it’s obvious that the Esquire 2 is designed for conference calls.
Harman Kardon Esquire 2 Battery
: 8.5/10Battery life is up to 8 hours, and it takes quite a while to fully charge the 3200 mAh rechargeable battery. While 8 hours is plenty in most cases, Harman Kardon could have inserted a larger Harman Kardon battery, such as a 5000 mAh, since phones like the Asus Zenfone Max are now equipped with larger Harman Kardon Esquire 2 Batterywithout significantly increasing the weight. If price is no object, and you like truly premium sound, a small portable device, and a powerful voice conferencing system, try the Harman Kardon Esquire 2; you won’t be disappointed.
