Foldable phone design hasn’t changed much this year, but that’s by no means a bad thing. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is an all-around stunning smartphone that’s still a pleasure to use, and if there’s any indication of where mainstream smartphones are headed from here, this is it.
Moreover, as more and more rivals emerge to challenge Samsung’s dominance of the foldable phone market, it seems wise for the company to choose to improve the formula rather than completely change it.vIn terms of quality, we’re once again looking at a pair of excellent screens. They each have two display modes to choose from – Vivid and Natural – with the former being the default setting. In this mode, the Z Fold 5’s internal screen averaged a Delta E (color variation) score of 3.36, hitting 100% of the sRGB color gamut, and total volume of 151%. The Vivoactive 4 is more refinement than revolution, but it’s good enough to be our favorite fitness smartwatch yet. The Vivoactive 4 features a completely revamped design, a host of new features (most notably music playback), and, most importantly, a lower price, making it one of the most attractive fitness smartwatches you can currently buy.

For a start, its screen is larger at 1.3 inches (versus 1.2 inches on the Vivoactive 3), and combined with slimmer bezels and slightly curved glass at the edges, the watch looks more refined than its predecessor. The screen isn’t an AMOLED panel like on the Venu, but a transflective Memory-in-Pixel display that’s legible in bright sunlight and, importantly, always on. Other major design changes are that the Vivoactive 4 has two buttons instead of one, and comes in two different sizes.

I didn’t pay much attention to this laptop when I first heard of it. But the second I went hands-on, I realized I had massively underestimated the Asus Vivobook Pro 15. This Acer laptop might be the most affordable way to own an Nvidia 40-series GPU

This laptop features a gorgeous-looking 14-inch OLED display with a maximum resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. I want to give a shout-out to the various ports on its side. So if you need to connect this laptop to a monitor or want to use it as a portable photo editing machine, you have a variety of options. Also, I wish the speakers were located at a different position than the bottom. Bottom speakers can sound muffled, even if they rely on sound reflecting off the surface the laptop is sitting on. Note that it also lacks a subwoofer, so the bass levels won’t cause any dance parties. At least, the audio sounded clear overall and the volume was loud enough in most situations.

Samsung’s latest smartwatch for the masses, the Galaxy Watch 7, was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra at the 2024 Unpacked event in Paris in July. Compared to the Watch 6 series, the Watch 7 comes in two smaller sizes, 44mm and 40mm, so it will likely appeal to most Galaxy phone owners with smaller wrists. The Watch Ultra is a large 47mm watch designed for those with larger wrists.
Unfortunately, there are no Galaxy Watch models with rotating bezels this year, so if you prefer that style of navigation, you’ll have to rely on software options that allow you to scroll lists and tiles by moving your finger around the periphery of the watch face. The Galaxy Watch 7 is affordable, costing $300 for the 40mm model and $330 for the 42mm model. LTE cellular support costs an additional $50 and requires a carrier’s cellular plan.

Even after Samsung’s calibration period, I only got about 24 hours of use on a single charge. That’s not a big change from the Galaxy Watch 4, 5, and 6. The main difference with the 7 is that I can reliably get a full day, whereas before I sometimes struggled to make it through a full day. (Those of you with the 44mm Watch 7 will have more time, since it has a larger Galaxy Watch battery.) Fast charging would be less painful, but I will add that I’m a heavy user of GPS and have the always-on display enabled most of the time. Asus Vivobook 16X review: Powerful performance, best OLED yet

The Vivobook 16X has the hardware of a basic gaming laptop, with a powerful Intel H-series processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics.However, don’t let that fool you into thinking it can handle decent gaming. It’s intended as a productivity device, and its discrete GPU is designed to boost performance for more demanding tasks like video editing. The display doesn’t have a typical gaming design, nor does it have RGB lighting or G-Sync support. Asus laptop battery Other gaming-related features are missing, such as Asus’s Armory Crate app (for monitoring and tweaking performance). Similar options are available in the MyAsus and ProArt Creator Hub apps, as well as in the standard Windows 11 settings menu, though.It’s worth noting, though, that the processor and graphics of the test model weren’t the latest even at the time of review. That means a 12th-generation Intel processor (not 13th-generation) and an RTX 3050 (the cheapest graphics card in the 2022 lineup).
The model I tested came with 16GB of RAM, which is fairly typical for 15- and 16-inch laptops in this price range. The 512GB SSD should be enough for most people, but there’s also a spare M.2 slot for expansion and an SD card for quickly moving files around the device.
Instead, the included charging connection uses a standard round plug on the side of the laptop.

The keyboard design is well thought out, with crisp backlighting and large buttons, though the separate number pad makes things a little confusing.
Since the power button is above the number pad instead of the regular keyboard, there’s less chance of accidentally hitting it and turning off the screen. I would complain otherwise. The keys themselves feel plasticky and the travel isn’t the best, but neither of these should be deal breakers. Unless you’re spending hours a day on the Vivobook 16X battery
I’m typing on a laptop with power on, so this isn’t a big deal.
Underneath is the frosted glass keyboard, which is comfortable to use and has excellent controls. It even features a fingerprint sensor in the top right corner for easy logins without a PIN or password. However, with its powerful performance, gaming-grade graphics, and 120Hz display, the Vivobook 16X’s battery life isn’t the best.

Fujifilm Finepix V10 digital camera review

Photography makes socializing more fun” is Fujifilm’s slogan for its V10 camera, and its unusually high ISO sensitivity should help you take great photos after dark. Gary Wolstenholme sees if this camera can really be the life of the party. Build and handling

The V10’s body is made almost entirely of metal, but with the large screen and delicate controls on the back, it feels more like an expensive accessory than a solid device. There are no finger grips on the front, nor room for your thumb on the back. The screen takes up most of the camera’s space, and you have to reach around it. I found it almost impossible to use it with one hand, and instead had to hold it between the fingers and thumbs of both hands.

The display is protected by a shiny acrylic sheet, which can cause problems when shooting in bright conditions, as the reflective surface makes it difficult to see.

Autofocus

Two AF modes can be selected from the menu, one that locks on the center of the frame, and another that automatically selects the AF point for you. Both modes perform well and lock quickly. The center AF mode is the faster of the two, with minimal lag.

Memory Cards

The V10 uses xD memory cards, which slot into the slot next to the battery. Here are the write speeds using the Jpeg quality setting using an Olympus xD card. There are Auto, Manual, Natural Light, Portrait, Landscape, Sports, and Night exposure modes to choose from in the menu. Auto is a simple point-and-shoot shooting mode, while Manual mode allows for control over the flash mode and the amount of exposure compensation used. The rest are all automatic scene modes that adjust exposure based on your chosen subject, with the exception of the Natural Light mode, which simply disables the flash, letting you take full advantage of this camera’s wider-than-normal ISO range.

Zoom Lens

The V10’s 3.4x zoom range is a little longer than normal, equivalent to 36-130mm on a 35mm camera. Zooming is quick and precise, but I found the paddle zoom control cumbersome to use, especially since it’s perched on the bottom of the camera out of harm’s way.

I was impressed with the V10’s control of digital noise in macro mode. Images shot up to ISO400 are clean and sharp, with only a small amount of noise visible at ISO400. Noise becomes more noticeable at ISO800 and ISO1600, but it’s still usable for small prints of about 6×4 inches. Another feature of images shot at these high sensitivity settings is the heavy use of in-camera noise reduction, which smooths out speckling. Unfortunately, this also reduces detail and produces strange speckle patterns.

Conclusion
