Sony’s fully wireless headphones “WF-1000XM5” may finally take over the “strongest”: product review

Sony’s new wireless headphone model “WF-1000XM5” is now released. The smaller body is equipped with larger drivers and more features than the previous model, but the lack of immersive sound quality and mediocre noise cancellation may make it no longer the best. As Mark Twain once said, “Just because everyone has the same idea doesn’t mean it’s the best idea.” I have no intention of refuting this statement. Although Twain had some lofty ideas when he said these words, there are always some meaningful things to agree on. One of them is completely wireless headphones.
Let’s take Sony’s wireless headphones “WF-1000XM4” released in 2021 as an example. The critics who reviewed these headphones are in full agreement. They are the best true wireless headphones you can buy at the time, and there is nothing more I can say about them. With consistent ratings, it is easier for consumers to make a decision.
This consensus makes the release of Sony’s WF-1000XM5 headphone Battery more interesting than other wireless headphone releases. New wireless headphones are released every day (or at least it feels like that), but from time to time we have the opportunity to see if the successors of the industry’s best headphones can continue their glorious history, right? In fact, such opportunities only come once every two years.
My first impressions of the WF-1000XM5s are pretty good. There may not be many situations in life where you spend a lot of money for something smaller, but the WF-1000XM5s are noticeably smaller and lighter than their predecessor. The WF-1000XM4s had a lot of good things going for them, but were pretty stubby. The WF-1000XM5s, on the other hand, weigh about 5.9 grams per ear and 37 grams with the charging case. So it’s fair to say that they’re better than the previous model in the “unobtrusive, comfortable earphones” department.

Meizu 21 Pro will be its swan song

Meizu is exiting the smartphone space, with the brand revealing it will release one more phone as its swan song as it transitions to artificial intelligence. Called Meizu 21, the brand teased the phone on its social media and revealed that it will come with a 6.79 -inch display. Judging from the teaser images, the Meizu 21 Pro appears to be less boxy than the 20 Pro, with the side of the phone pointing towards a curved AMOLED panel. If the renders are accurate, we’re looking at a phone with almost no bezels, and it appears to be even thinner than the already slim bezels on the 20 Pro.

Meizu hasn’t revealed details about the 21 Pro, but its CEO claims it has advanced AI concepts that can beat those on the Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra and Huawei Pocket 2. Since we are talking about AI, we assume that the 21 Pro will most likely use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Meizu 20 ProMeizu will reveal more details about the 21 Pro and the future of its phones on February 29 in China. While we are waiting, Meizu CEO also revealed that FlymeOS will be reorganized and that Meizu will develop AI terminals for LLM such as OpenAI in the future .

Sony ULT Field 7 review: A great-sounding, rugged party speaker

Sony’s Bluetooth speaker lineup is pretty extensive. There’s the wheeled speaker SRS-XV900, which delivers thunderous omnidirectional sound. Spatial audio enthusiasts can opt for the lavish SRS-RA5000, which delivers room-scale 3D sound with 360 Reality Audio. Budget-conscious buyers can even opt for the SRS-XB100, a fantastic compact speaker that has great bass for its size and is one of the best cheap Bluetooth speakers.
With so many great options, Sony leaned in to launch another speaker line under the recently announced ULT Power Sound series. Three new speaker models were introduced: the entry-level ULT Field 1, the chunky midrange ULT Field 7, and the flagship ULT Field 10. There’s also a pair of ULT Wear headphones in the series. All products are designed to emphasize bass levels with a ULT button that boosts audio output.Sony ULT Field 7 Bluetooth Speakers BatteryLife (Rated): 30 hoursConnectivity: Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC, AAC, and LDACDurability: IP67-ratedLike some of Sony’s best headphones, the ULT Field 7 showcases top-notch craftsmanship. The cylindrical design is wrapped in hard plastic and a sturdy mesh weave for a look that’s both beautiful and durable. The IP67 certification means the speaker can withstand dust and high water pressure. The passive radiators are recessed on each side. Details like the buttons and Sony logo are well revealed. Most impressive is the rear compartment, which is flush when closed and hides a ton of features (more on that later).
You can use the handle to take the speaker anywhere you want. However, the speaker is large and heavy (14 pounds), so it’s not exactly a breeze to carry around.
Sony ULT FIELD 7 Review: Controls and Connectivity Useful quick controls and inputs on the speakerGuitar and mic supportEasy wireless connectivityLet’s start with the top module, which houses six buttons: Power On/Off, Bluetooth, Play/Pause, Volume -, Volume +, and ULT. Most of the buttons are embossed and easy to spot, while the ULT button is round and enables Sony’s two bass-boosting modes. They all have a solid tactile feel and respond instantly to single/multi-press gestures.
There’s a compartment on the back with buttons for toggling the LED and Sony   ULT Field 7   bluetooth speakersbattery-saving modes, as well as karaoke features like Echo and Key Control for adjusting the tone. The guitar button indicates whether you’re using a guitar or a mic when the speaker is plugged in. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, AC connector, gain knob, guitar quarter-inch mic/guitar input, and a USB-A port for connecting the speaker to any desktop setup or charging a portable device. The buttons and ports work well.
Here I tested the ULT Field 7 speaker, and on first impression it looks like a big portable speaker that’s just as expensive. Powerful sound and interesting features, plus a huge, nearly indestructible case, are features that help mask the high MSRP. Scroll down to read my full review to see if the Sony ULT Field 7 is worth the investment. Loud, room-filling soundULT modes hit or missSound field optimization worksThe bass is Sony’s forte, and there’s enough bass to satisfy most listening environments. The X-Balanced speaker unit combines with a passive radiator and two tweeters to produce a loud, spacious sound that doesn’t compromise on frequency range, at least not when the special modes are disabled. One of the biggest selling points of the series is the ULT button, which enables different sound modes: ULT1 for a deep low-pass range and ULT 2 for an emphasis on sound pressure. These effects are positive for some tracks and detrimental for others. I liked the tight sound of the bass drum and snare drum on Torii Wolf’s “Everlasting Peace,” but was disappointed by the overly loud resonance that muted the frequencies on Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes.”
Audio performance was best when Soundstage Optimization was turned on in the companion app. This automatically scans your environment for ambient noise and adjusts the sound on the fly, and it worked surprisingly well. I placed the speaker on my balcony, where there’s all sorts of incidental noise (eg, air conditioning units, landscaping, fountain splashing), and this feature improved clarity.
LDAC enables smooth playback on the best music streaming services. I’d really like to see 360 Reality Audio here, especially when used with optimized Tidal tracks.
In settings, you’ll find lighting, power, and sound modes. Lighting has 10 selectable lighting sequences. Power options offer a variety of choices for extending  Sony  bluetooth speakers  battery life. Two ULT modes can be toggled in the Sound Effects field, along with custom EQ and Soundstage Optimization. When streaming, you can choose to prioritize sound quality or connectivity. DJs can create mixes using the isolator and flanger settings, though neither setting adds much to the listening experience.
The home page has a  Sony   ULT Field 7   bluetooth speakers battery level indicator, a volume slider, and shortcuts to popular streaming platforms. You can access your personal music catalog in My Library. Audio input and USB let you control playback on plugged-in devices. Finally, you can group other ULT Field 7 speakers together for true stereo sound, or connect up to 100 compatible speakers to sync music (and lighting) via Party Connect.
Sony’s Fiestable app works with the speakers to add sound effects, adjust lighting and karaoke modes, and mirror the sound system’s lighting effects on your phone’s display. It will appeal mainly to DJs and party hosts who want to liven up the party atmosphere
Sony ULT FIELD 7 Review: Sony ULT Field 7 Bluetooth Speakers Battery LifeSony ULT Field 7 by the pool with reviewer Alex Bracetti
One of the longest-lasting Bluetooth speakers on the marketOnboard features can seriously eat into the Sony ULT Field 7 Bluetooth Speakers Battery lifeUSB port can be used to charge portable devicesSony rates the Sony  ULT Field 7  bluetooth speakers battery life at 30 hours. This means the ULT Field 7 outlasts other bass-heavy behemoths, such as the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 (18 hours) and the UE Hyperboom (24 hours), while offering the same playtime as some smaller speakers, such as the Tribit Stormbox Flow. One caveat, though: Volume must be kept at around 25%, with both the LED and ULT mode disabled. Enabling the latter may reduce battery life to around 7 hours.
After testing, this speaker lasts about 15 hours, taking into account the special features and volume. That’s enough for two weekend parties (4-5 hours per day) and charging a smartphone. There are two power saving modes –Sony Bluetooth Speakers Battery Care, which suppresses the charge to 90%, and Stamina, which optimizes settings to suppress power consumption – each of which can provide 2 hours of additional use. The auto-standby function puts the speaker into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity. You can get 3 hours of playback time with a 10-minute charge.
Sony ULT FIELD 7 Review: ConclusionYou can get loud, wide sound from any reasonably priced Bluetooth speaker, especially one with the Sony logo. Why should you consider the ULT Field 7? Versatility.
The powerful sound quality and deep bass will definitely attract brand lovers. The design is heavy, but very rugged, providing a high level of protection during pool parties and outdoor gatherings. However, it’s the party features and portable charging capabilities that turn the speaker into an enjoyable and maintainable ecosystem, and make the ULT Field 7 a great portable speaker, even if it’s expensive.

Amazon Fire HD 6 review: Raising the bar for low-end tablets

The Amazon Fire HD 6 shakes up the budget tablet category. Starting at just $99 for the 8GB model, this 6-inch tablet sports a crisp IPS screen, runs smoothly, and offers a full-featured, user-friendly operating system.ProsStarting at $99, the Amazon Fire HD 6 is affordable. It’s small, very portable, and easy to use with one hand. Performance is smooth, and the operating system has a variety of family-friendly features.ConsThe plastic construction feels cheap and chunky. It lacks Amazon’s Mayday instant customer service feature and the Google Play Store. The free space on the 8GB model fills up quickly.Bottom LineThe smooth-performing, feature-rich Amazon Fire HD 6 is unmatched in the budget tablet category. DesignThe smallest entry in Amazon’s tablet lineup continues the tradition of subtle yet unique design. The Amazon Fire HD 6’s design is a far cry from the sleek build of the HDX 7, and while its angular back panel is reminiscent of its higher-end sibling, the similarities end there. For a smaller-than-average tablet, it’s not exactly slim, and at 0.63 pounds (0.29 kg), it’s not the lightest either. HardwareThe Amazon Fire HD 6 is powered by an ARM Cortex-A15 1.21GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage.
Other specs for the tablet include 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. Unlike the HDX series, the Fire HD 6 doesn’t offer a 4G LTE version. In real-world use, the Fire HD 6’s battery life is impressive. With both occasional and heavy use, the tablet lasted about two and a half days on a full charge. With just under 50 percent Amazon Fire HD 6 battery, I was able to stream about three hours of video at full brightness, and with just 10 percent remaining, I was able to squeeze in about a half hour of reading time. After you’ve tested the tablet in the CNET Labs, check back for our battery drain test results.
ConclusionThe Amazon Fire HD 6 is a revolutionary in the world of cheap tablets; its sharp IPS display, compact build, full-featured operating system and smooth performance are a rare combination for a device that costs just $99. It’s still held back by the lack of a Google Play Store and a thick plastic casing, but if saving money is a priority, some sacrifices have to be made.

Sony PlayStation Portal system update: public Wi-Fi login and experience optimization

As digital entertainment is increasingly integrated into people’s daily lives, Sony’s PlayStation series has been committed to providing players with an excellent gaming experience. On June 19, Sony officially announced on the PlayStation blog that its handheld remote play device PlayStation Portal has ushered in an important system update. This update not only adds a number of long-awaited features for users, but also significantly improves the portability and user experience of the device, marking an important step for PlayStation Portal in providing a seamless and convenient gaming experience. One of the most eye-catching updates is that PlayStation Portal now supports connecting to public Wi-Fi networks that require login. In the past, players who wanted to use Portal for remote gaming in hotels, cafes or other public places with free Wi-Fi may encounter network connection obstacles. After this update, Portal can generate an on-screen QR code. Players only need to scan the QR code with their mobile phones to easily log in to the public network, greatly improving the portability of the device and the diversity of usage scenarios.
The addition of this feature is obviously in response to users’ needs to take Portal away from their home network. Nowadays, with the accelerated pace of people’s lives, more and more players want to enjoy the fun of games while traveling. Whether in the departure lounge waiting for the plane to take off or enjoying the afternoon in a cafe, players can connect to the PlayStation 5 console at any time through Portal and continue their gaming adventure. At the same time, the updated Portal also allows players to directly view the battery percentage in the status bar in the upper right corner. Before this, the power level was only displayed as a vague power icon, and players often had difficulty accurately judging the remaining power of the device. Now, whether in the game process or checking the status of the device before going out, players can clearly grasp the power status of Portal at a glance, so as to better plan their usage time.
It is worth mentioning that while announcing these updates, the PlayStation blog also implicitly mentioned the “unexpected success” of Portal. Although Sony did not disclose specific sales data, it is not difficult to read between the lines that this handheld remote play device has won considerable attention in the market. This may be inseparable from the new gaming experience that Portal brings to players. By bringing console games to more scenarios, Portal not only expands the possibilities of games, but also allows more players to find moments of relaxation and entertainment in their busy lives.
In addition, the blog post also mentioned that players who own Portal are often exposed to the remote play function for the first time. In the first few months of owning Portal, their overall PS5 game time also increased. This data not only proves the effectiveness of Portal in attracting new users, but also shows its potential in increasing user stickiness and game time.

Spectrum AI broadens scope of pivotal study of AI wound platform

The company has added two university campuses in California and Utah. A day after hitting its pediatric enrollment goal, Spectral AI has expanded the scope of its pivotal burn study by adding two more clinical trial sites in the US.
The addition of UC San Diego and the University of Utah brings the total number of US clinical trial sites to 14.
The pivotal study (NCT06131203) is evaluating the US company’s AI wound diagnostic platform DeepView.
“These two new sites allow us to accept more burn patients coming in through the emergency room, complementing our existing trial sites in burn centers across the country, establishing our presence in new regions, and advancing our goal of completing this study by the end of the year,” said Peter Carlson, CEO of Spectral AI.
Expanding the clinical trial base allows access to a more diverse patient population and reduces bias, Carlson added. This is particularly important for imaging devices, where skin color and patient anatomy can affect outcomes. DeepView uses algorithms to analyze multispectral imaging of wounds against a database of burn biopsies. Spectral AIsays the device can help predict wound healing outcomes and support clinical decision making. Early assessment of the depth and severity of burns is critical to ensuring that patients receive appropriate care. According to analysis by GlobalData, the wound care management market is expected to reach a total of $38.8 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.4%.
In addition to spectral imaging, lasers, optical cameras, and photoacoustic imaging are also used to assess burn depth.
Spectral AI, formerly known as Spectral MD, changed its name after a business combination with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Rosecliff Acquisition Corp I. The company’s technology was approved for adult use in the UK in February 2024 and is currently being evaluated in trials with a view to obtaining approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Spectral AI plans to complete the pivotal trial in the fourth quarter of 2024 and is expected to obtain approval in 2025.
In March 2024, the company signed contracts with the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the US Army Medical Material Development Activity (USAMMDA). The goal of the funding is to support the development of a handheld version of its system for use by military personnel in the field.

Harman Kardon Esquire 2 review: A premium Bluetooth speaker at a great price

The Esquire 2 is where the premium lifestyle brand comes in to the overcrowded Bluetooth market. For most brands, standing out is hard, but the Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is different. It’s a premium Bluetooth speaker from a luxury brand that doesn’t come cheap. But is it all about looks and premium feel, or does it actually perform well in terms of sound quality? Let’s find out. Build and Design: 9/10 The Harman Kardon Esquire 2 is a well-designed speaker. Like all Harman Kardon designs, it looks simple, sophisticated, and refined.
It has a solid plastic grille on the front and a leatherette back, from which the kickstand pops out. The speaker is surrounded by an aluminum finish, with indicator lights on the left and action buttons on the top.
harman-kardon-esquire-2-backThe Esquire 2 weighs just 600 grams and is slightly taller than a clutch. In fact, it doesn’t look like a speaker in the traditional sense at all.
harman-kardon-esquire-2 frontThe top control buttons are minimal and useful, and they also double as buttons for playing and pausing music.
harman-kardon-esquire-2-topThe right side of the device has a microUSB charging port, an auxiliary 3.5mm jack, and a regular USB port, so you can use it to charge your smartphone or tablet. Very nice! harman-kardon-esquire-2-USB connectionsThe Premium Skimp Esquire 2 undoubtedly packs a lot of surprises, the biggest of which is that despite its high price, there are virtually no accessories. There’s just a flat USB cable in the box, and that’s it. There’s no charger, no auxiliary cable, and no bag to carry the speaker in (the bag is sold separately). A device that costs less than half the price comes with more accessories than Harman Kardon’s Esquire 2.Performance: 9/10 We tested the Esquire 2 with an Android phone connected to a Windows PC via Bluetooth via a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.
Overall, these are excellent Bluetooth speakers, and they get surprisingly loud without feeling like they’re trying too hard. Sure, we’ve heard louder sound from the larger Bose Sound dock V2 portable speaker, but for its size, the Esquire 2 performs very well. The complaint most people have about Bluetooth speakers is that they usually sound mono because there’s only one speaker in such a small box. The Harman Kardon Esquire 2 solves this problem by actually inserting four different “professionally tuned” sound drivers and a passive radiator (reflex port) into the box instead of two. The resulting sound is satisfyingly rich stereo, rather than the cramped mono sound that most Bluetooth speakers produce.
You’ll notice that the speaker handles bass very well. No matter which track I played, the Esquire 2 handled the sound very well. Of course, the speaker does lack extreme low-end bass, which was evident in Charlie Puth’s Betty Boop (Original Mix), which gives the bass very deep and can really give any speaker a workout. Surprisingly, the Esquire 2 handled this track very well. Most Bluetooth speakers can’t produce sub-bass at all, and neither can the Esquire 2, but what the Esquire 2 produces is rich bass while playing tracks loudly without gasping for air. All the music played is full and layered. While you’ll definitely hear round and rich bass and low-mids, the mids and highs are no slouch either. The highs and mids are crisp, bright, and prominent. The vocals sound especially good, with the Aventine track by Agnes Obel especially highlighting the singer’s voice, and the violin score is also very beautiful, with a full and rounded sound. Call Quality: 9/10 Call quality is excellent, with voices loud and clear, although the other party may experience a hollow or “speaking through a tube” effect, which is a problem with all Bluetooth speakers. With the “quad mics”, the speaker can easily capture sounds from all directions without a problem, and it’s obvious that the Esquire 2 is designed for conference calls.
Harman Kardon Esquire 2 Battery
: 8.5/10Battery life is up to 8 hours, and it takes quite a while to fully charge the 3200 mAh rechargeable battery. While 8 hours is plenty in most cases, Harman Kardon could have inserted a larger Harman Kardon battery, such as a 5000 mAh, since phones like the Asus Zenfone Max are now equipped with larger Harman Kardon Esquire 2 Batterywithout significantly increasing the weight. If price is no object, and you like truly premium sound, a small portable device, and a powerful voice conferencing system, try the Harman Kardon Esquire 2; you won’t be disappointed.

Panasonic’s ‘new’ Lumix FZ80D is a 60x superzoom camera

Designed primarily for wildlife and nature photographers, the original FZ80 was launched back in 2017. The new FZ80D offers minor upgrades across the board, but retains the all-important 60x zoom lens. The Panasonic FZ80D’s imaging capabilities are identical to the standard FZ80. The camera features a small 18.1-megapixel 1/2.3-type image sensor and a 20-1200mm equivalent lens. Maximum aperture range is f/2.8 to f/5.9.
Other features include RAW image recording, 4K/30p video, optical image stabilization, and continuous shooting up to 10 frames per second. ISO ranges from 800 to 3,200.
Even after seven years, the FZ80D doesn’t bring many changes or improvements. Panasonic improved the electronic viewfinder, increasing it from 1.16 million dots to 2.36 million dots, a gain of about 50%. The rear LCD is also sharper, increasing from 1.04 million dots to 1.84 million dots. The new FZ80D model also features a USB-C port instead of the old-school micro USB of the old model.
Granted, the FZ80D’s small 18.1-megapixel image sensor isn’t stellar, especially at higher ISO settings. The 20-1200mm equivalent zoom lens isn’t sharp at any extreme, but the FZ80 (and now the FZ80D) enables photographers to take photos that would be difficult or expensive to capture using an interchangeable lens camera system.

Aorus 15 XE5 review: A compact QHD gaming laptop with Thunderbolt 4

Energy guzzler. With the Aorus 15 XE5, Gigabyte has introduced another 15.6-inch compact gaming notebook to the market. Among other things, this laptop shines with its impressive performance (both in gaming and non-gaming applications) and its ability to accommodate two PCIe 4.0 SSDs. The Gigabyte Aorus 15 XE5 features a black plastic chassis with a smooth, matte finish. There are no extravagant design elements to the device. The thin bezels around the display add an elegant touch to the laptop. The laptop’s design is further accentuated by the illuminated Aorus logo on the back of the lid. Once you remove the bottom panel, you can get a peek at the battery (screwed on, not glued on) and the rest of the internals. Keyboard

This gaming laptop comes with a chiclet keyboard with a number pad. The smooth keys offer a moderate travel distance and a distinct actuation point. The keyboard does not flex while typing. Each key is individually illuminated and has two brightness levels. Overall, Gigabyte has offered a keyboard that is suitable for everyday use. Performance – Plenty of power thanks to Alder Lake and AmpereThe Gigabyte Aorus 15 XE5 is a powerful 15.6-inch laptop that performs well in a variety of demanding usage scenarios. In addition to the review configuration, Gigabyte also offers two other models: one with an RTX 3080 Ti laptop (Aorus 15 YE5) and another with an RTX 3060 laptop (Aorus 15 KE5).
ProcessorThe Core i7-12700H processor (Alder Lake) contains six performance cores (Hyper-Threading, 2.4 to 4.7 GHz) and eight efficiency cores (no Hyper-Threading, 1.8 to 3.5 GHz), for a total of 20 logical CPU cores.
When the laptop is powered by Gigabyte Aorus 15 XE5 Laptop battery
power, the clock speed is significantly reduced. Overall, the Core i7 in the Aorus 15 XE5 delivered slightly above average benchmark results. Power Management – The XE5 requires too much powerGigabyte Aorus 15 XE5 Laptop
Energy ConsumptionThe Aorus 15 XE5 consumes too much power when idle, consuming around 31 to 46 watts, sometimes even up to 80 watts in the worst cases. Comparing the XE5 to its competitors gives a rough idea of how much power an Optimus-enabled laptop should consume when idle. This high power consumption is likely due to a bug. The problem persists even when disabling the AI Boost feature. So we’ll have to wait and see if Gigabyte is able to fix this with software or a BIOS update.
Throughout the stress test and The Witcher 3 test, the laptop’s power consumption remained stable and at a level that’s normal for the hardware. The included charger has more than enough capacity to power the laptop and was able to handle momentary spikes that exceeded its output rating (240 watts).
