The latest addition to Dell’s XPS 13 and 15-inch lineup is a refreshed 13-inch model. While the older model is still easily available, this Dell XPS 13 2024 features the latest design and components – bringing it in line with Dell’s other new models (now available in 14-inch and 16-inch models).
Visually, the Dell XPS 13 2024 shares many of the same design features as the 2023 Dell XPS 13 Plus, namely the seamless trackpad, zero-grid keyboard, and a row of touch-enabled keys below the display. These modern touches give the model an overall more premium feel, even though the older model is still an ultra-premium laptop in its own right.
One of the more interesting changes to the Dell XPS 13 2024 is the inclusion of a new Intel Ultra series chipset. These are new processors from Intel that include an NPU, or “neural processing unit,” designed to enhance AI-assisted tasks. We wouldn’t currently rank the latest Dell XPS 13 as a top choice for value, as it starts at a relatively high $1,399. In comparison, we’ve seen the slightly older XPS 13 Plus on sale for as low as $999 – a model that looks very similar to the latest model. The older XPS 13 model is still easily available for purchase, with the base Core i5 model available for as low as $599. The Dell XPS 13 Plus was a separate premium version of the XPS 13 that was originally released in 2023. It has been replaced by the latest 2024 XPS model, which inherits its design, but is still easily available on Dell’s official website – and often at a discount.
On the outside, this model is almost identical to the new base XPS 13, with a seamless tactile keyboard and a redesigned keyboard. However, its internal components are slightly older. Rather than featuring the latest ‘Ultra’ series processors, it comes with a standard Intel Core i7 chipset – which is still more than powerful enough for zipping through everyday tasks.
Generally speaking, we still recommend the Dell XPS 13 Plus if you can get it for a reasonable price. We’ve recently seen Dell offer the XPS 13 Plus for as low as $999/£898, which is a great deal considering it’s only been out for a year at the time of writing. It’ll likely be the cheaper option for a while compared to the standard 2024 XPS 13, and will be a great choice if you’re willing to give up the latest chipset. The older Dell XPS 13 from 2022 is still easily available as of early 2024, unofficially making it the ‘entry-level’ model. While it lacks some of the latest design features (like a fancy keyboard or trackpad-less design), it’s still a great Ultrabook and a current top pick if you’re looking for absolute value for money.
The 2022 XPS 13 features a 12th-generation Intel Core chipset, which is still a good choice if you’re not looking for cutting-edge performance. For example, if you just want a premium laptop for writing emails or watching videos on the go, then the Core i5 model might be a good choice. We’ve seen this base model on sale for just $599/£799, which is great value.
However, if you need more performance, then you might want to set your site on the Core i7 model – which also has a more spacious 512GB SSD. This particular model is available in the US for as low as $799, which we think is a great price as it’s still a very powerful laptop. This is the newest Dell XPS 15 on the market right now, as the 15-inch model hasn’t yet received a 2024 update like the 13-inch model. Although it’s not the newest model on the market (there’s now an XPS 16), it’s still a good choice right now if you want a powerful laptop that can take on the heaviest workloads.
In addition to the latest components from Intel and Nvidia, the latest Dell XPS 15 2023 includes the option to configure your machine with up to 64GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD, as well as the option of a luxurious 3.5K OLED display. Nikon D810 review: The ultimate adventure camera?

Last month, I took my Nikon D810 out into the Sierra Highlands—one of the toughest adventures. It got dirty, wet, and knocked around a lot. Here’s how it fared. The D810 has strong weather sealing, so it can handle wet or dusty conditions.
DurabilityDurability is arguably one of the most important factors when choosing a camera for adventure photography.
The D810’s body is made entirely of magnesium alloy (magnesium is the lightest structural metal) and is weather-sealed to keep rain and dust out of the camera’s interior. Its shutter is tested for 200,000 cycles, 25% more than the Canon 5D Mk III. All of these features come together to make for a rugged camera.

The camera also seems to do a good job of keeping out dust. Upon closer inspection of my photos, only a small dust spot showed up after a month of daily outdoor use and two weeks of intensive High Route shooting—acceptable given the conditions.
All of these factors combined have worked well together; so far, I can confidently shoot with the D810 no matter what difficult conditions I encounter on my adventures. Ease of Use

The D810 is about twice the size and weight of Sony’s A7-series mirrorless cameras.
First, the D810 is big. The body alone weighs 31 ounces, which is heavy (but still comparable to a Canon 5D Mk III or 5Ds). Add a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED ($2,499) and the weight reaches 64 ounces, or 4 pounds. That’s too heavy to carry around your neck, in your hands, or, worst of all, in your backpack. Especially if you’re already carrying a lot of outdoor gear.
By comparison, the mirrorless full-frame Sony A7S and 16-35mm f/4 weigh only 34 ounces, or almost half that, and are much easier to handle.
Due to the size and weight of the D810, it’s not a good idea to carry it in the backcountry. Using a standard neck strap is cumbersome; it’s too bulky to use the Peak Design CapturePro clip. The best way I found to carry it was with a Peak Design Slide, but even that isn’t a perfect solution. This problem isn’t unique to the D810, however, but rather a problem with all SLRs; it’s only been highlighted by the recent emergence of more compact but still high-quality mirrorless cameras.

In my past experience with Nikon cameras, the user interface was a major downfall. It felt clunky, the buttons were hard to reach, and the placement made no sense. However, that’s not the case with the D810. The power switch is located around the shutter button, so you can turn it on and start shooting with just a flick of the wrist. With the default control map, the shutter speed dial is located on the (protruding) handgrip just below the shutter release button; the aperture adjustment dial is on the back of the camera where your thumb would be. The placement of these controls, plus the super-powerful Auto ISO mode, makes shooting in changing lighting conditions feel natural and intuitive.
Some nice touches on the D810 include a display showing the number of shots remaining on the card even when the camera is off, and an Auto Off mode by default. These are unremarkable but useful features. Shooting starts within half a second of turning the camera back on, allowing photographers to capture the briefest of moments.
The D810’s impressive dynamic range allows it to preserve detail in both highlights and shadows, even in challenging lighting conditions and environments – such as on snow. ISO 64, f/4.5, 1/160.
Speaking of capturing fleeting moments, the D810 borrows the renowned focus system from the top-of-the-line D4S, which features a 51-point Dynamic AF mode with 3D Tracking. Combined with a focus sensitivity of -2 to 19 EV, the camera locks onto subjects quickly and without hesitation, even in dark shooting conditions. When shooting on the highway, the D810 focused so quickly and quietly that I often didn’t even realize it had focused. The very fast and accurate focus system, combined with the respectable continuous shooting speed, makes it easy for the D810 to capture fleeting moments.

Review: Eufy RoboVac 11S Max

Eufy’s robot vacuums are small, affordable, and good-looking, but they’re a pain to navigate with their bounce. Eufy’s flagship ROBOVACS are among the most popular robot vacuums on the market. They’re small, good-looking, easy to use, and reasonably priced. I reviewed the 11+ in 2017, and its strengths almost outweighed its weaknesses… well, it didn’t clean very well.
This year, Eufy’s new 11S Max offers an upgrade to the same small, slim, and good-looking robot vacuum. Now, Eufy claims it has a maximum suction power of 2 kilopascals. (For comparison, the Coral vacuum has a suction power of 2.7 kilopascals; a typical handheld vacuum has a suction power of about 1.7 kilopascals.) When the vacuum’s brushes start to spin slowly on a high-pile carpet, they trigger the vacuum’s fan motor to increase suction. For such a small and light vacuum, it was very effective at agitating and cleaning my dog-hair-filled carpet.
My main gripe with the 11S Max is philosophical: It uses outdated navigation technology. Instead of mapping software, the 11S Max uses what’s called bounce navigation, which moves the robot randomly around your home until the battery runs out.
A few years ago, bounce technology was standard on cheap robot vacuums. Today, more affordable vacuums come with mapping software, which is a more efficient, thorough, and energy-efficient way to clean your house.
If your budget doesn’t exceed $200, the 11S Max is probably one of the best affordable robot vacuums you can buy. But if your budget is a little higher, you might want to research whether you can get a smart vacuum instead.
Desire to LiveThe 11S Max looks almost identical to the 11+. At 2.85 inches tall, it’s slim enough to fit under my couch, and there are no menacing red laser eyes or turrets sticking out of the glass top. To set it up, I plugged in the stand and placed the battery in the remote. The robot vacuum ran for an impressive two hours and lasted a little over four hours on a charge.
The dustbin capacity upgrade to 0.6 liters is respectable, and I filled it up with dog hair every time I used it. There’s no sensor to alert you when the dustbin is full, but Eufy says most people will probably only have to run the device two or three times to fill it up.
For a vacuum with such powerful suction, it’s remarkably quiet. I measured it at 60 decibels on hardwood and 60 to 65 decibels on carpet, depending on whether BoostIQ was enabled. For reference, 60 decibels is loud enough for me to watch the season finale of Fleabag while it cleans.
Infrared and drop sensors help the 11S Max navigate better than its predecessor. It deftly avoided steps in my kitchen and steered clear of robot traps like a kid’s scooter stacked in a corner.
In fact, the only household items that gave it serious trouble were dangling shoelaces from a shoe rack and a small decorative table with a domed base. The 11S Max spent so much time and energy hitting the angled sides of the table base that I ended up moving it to the garage while it vacuumed. My daughter’s long hair and I didn’t get tangled up with the carpet brush.
The 11S Max does have an edge cleaning feature, which combines random and edge cleaning paths if you set the vacuum to auto-clean. I did see it along some edges, like under my kitchen cabinets and along the wall. When the cabinet ended, however, it resumed bouncing merrily. I often found leftover crumbs in high-traffic areas of my home, like next to the shoe rack and under my kid’s chair at the kitchen table.
Against the AppFor some people, not having to download yet another app and fiddle with connecting a robot vacuum to your home network and your phone is a good thing. I certainly felt the same way when it came to Eufy’s Wi-Fi-free baby monitor. Sometimes it feels like a revelation to just plug in the device and use it.
There’s a button on the top of the 11S Max to power it on, but it also comes with a remote control that requires two AAA batteries. The remote features manual directional controls, as well as other features like boosting suction, returning it to the dock, and spot cleaning. You can also schedule cleanings with the remote, but only daily, not weekly or every other day like you can with Eufy’s Wi-Fi vacuums. Overall, the 11S Max is simple and easy to use. But I just couldn’t get over how outdated the bounce-clean feature was. I ran the 11S Max for a full two hours. When the Eufy RoboVac 11S Max vacuum’s battery finally started to die, it was in my bedroom.

This premium workstation’s battery life lasts for more than 15 hours with light use. That’s enough to get you through a full day, or even two, easily, depending on your workload. It has a crisp Mini LED display, a roomy keyboard, and an easy-to-use tactile touchpad. Ports include three USB/Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1, and a full-size SD card reader. You can configure it with either the M3 Pro or Max SoC (system-on-chip); both are fast enough to handle demanding workloads like video editing, 3D graphics and animation, and programming. There’s also a basic M3 chip option if you don’t need as much processing power but still want “pro” features like a display and upward-firing speakers.
A Windows alternative is the Dell XPS 16 (2024). It’s also a high-end workstation laptop with plenty of processing power and good battery life, though the hardware configuration will affect its longevity. Hardware options include Intel Core 7 or 9 CPUs, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, and either 120Hz FHD+ IPS or 90Hz 4K+ OLED panels. The latter has full DCI P3 color space coverage, making it a great choice for color-critical work at the expense of battery life. The SSD is user-replaceable, so you can easily increase the amount or upgrade to better-performing memory or a faster drive. While this laptop is very well-made, unfortunately both the keyboard layout and touchpad design take a while to get comfortable using; the borderless design of the keycaps can easily lead to accidental inputs, and you can’t see the edge of the touchpad due to the front deck design.
Apple MacBook Air 13
Our best mid-range and high-end pick is the Apple MacBook Air 13 (2024). Like the Apple MacBook Pro 14 (M3, 2023) above, it’s a high-end, well-built model with a Apple MacBook Air 13 battery that can easily get you through a typical eight-hour workday. Its base M3 SoC isn’t as powerful as the M3 Pro or Max versions, so it’s better suited for lighter general productivity tasks like text processing, web browsing, and video playback. It can handle some demanding work, like video editing, but you won’t get as good an experience as the Pro models.
The user experience is great, with a bright Retina display, a comfortable keyboard, and a huge tactile trackpad. The main downside is that it only has two USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports; this supports two external displays, but only when the laptop is closed. Apple is still selling the M2-based Apple MacBook Air 13 (2022) as a more affordable option, at $100 less. The M3 model has only a few minor upgrades, including Wi-Fi 6E, slightly better performance, and support for two external displays (when the laptop is closed).
For Windows users, we recommend the HP Spectre x360 14 (2024). This 14-inch 2-in-1 offers an excellent user experience, with great build quality, a large tactile trackpad, and a crisp 2.8K OLED display, while still delivering all-day battery life for light use. It has a better port selection than the MacBook Air, with one USB-A, two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it also supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, which offers faster connection speeds and lower latency if you have a compatible modem. Its Meteor Lake Intel processor handles general productivity tasks without a problem, but isn’t quite as well suited to more demanding workloads.
Lenovo Yoga 7i 16
If you want a more modest mid-range model, check out the Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 (2023). It has a large 16-inch display that’s perfect for split-screen multitasking, and since it’s a 2-in-1, you can flip the screen around and use it as a tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 battery lasts a little over 12 hours with light use, and charges over USB-C. You can choose between an FHD+ or QHD+ panel; we recommend the latter because it looks sharper and is brighter to combat glare. You can configure it with Intel’s 13th-generation U-series and P-series CPUs, which are fast enough for general productivity tasks like text processing, web browsing, presentations, and spreadsheets.
The keyboard feels nice to type on and also comes with a number pad, which is great for people who crunch a lot of numbers. It also has a fingerprint sensor and a facial recognition camera for quick logins. Port-wise, there are two USB-A, two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, one HDMI, and a MicroSD card reader. The only downsides are that the webcam image has an unnatural tint and the microphone picks up some background noise. Finally, the display supports stylus input, but you may need to buy the stylus separately, depending on the model. The stylus uses Wacom AES technology and supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt.

The Dell Alienware m18 R2 (2024) is a mid-range gaming laptop. It replaces the Dell Alienware m18 (2023). This 2024 model features Intel 14th-generation CPUs (Raptor Lake update) up to the Core i9-14900HX, and NVIDIA 40-series GPUs, from the RTX 4060 to the RTX 4090, the latter with a maximum TGP (total graphics power) of 175W. Memory and storage max out at 64GB and 8TB (in RAID 0), respectively. Display options remain the same as its predecessor, including 165Hz QHD+ and 480Hz FHD+ panels; both support G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology. It has a 1080p webcam, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a 97Wh Dell Alienware m18 R2  battery. The keyboard switches are customizable; you can choose between scissor switches or ultra-thin (clicky) CherryMX mechanical switches. They offer a unique tactile and audio feedback; you can hear it here. Oppo Reno 10 5G: Cameras, display, battery and everything you need to know

Oppo’s Reno 10 smartphone series, which comprises the Oppo Reno 10 5G, Oppo Reno 10 Pro and Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus, has officially launched in various regions across the world, but only the first of those devices is available in the UK.
Positioned as a mid-range photography powerhouse, the Oppo Reno 10 5G arrives as the successor to the Oppo Reno 9, which itself succeeded the Oppo Reno 8. The latter phone was the last Reno device to ship in Western markets, though, so – for the most part – we’ll be comparing the Oppo Reno 10 5G to that phone throughout this guide.

The phone’s single 8GB RAM / 256GB storage variation costs £399, though it’s worth noting that both RAM and storage capacities can be expanded. For comparison, the Oppo Reno 8 retailed for £419 / AU$999 at launch, so the Oppo Reno 10 5G undercuts its predecessor in the price department.
In all likelihood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G will be coming to Europe and Australia, too, but Oppo hasn’t yet shared release date or pricing information for either region. As with other Oppo products in 2023, US consumers look set to miss out on the Oppo Reno 10 5G.

Oppo Reno 10 5GOn the design and display front, the Oppo Reno 10 5G measures 162.4 x 74.2 x 8 mm and weighs 185g, meaning it’s a touch larger and heavier than the Oppo Reno 8.
That bigger frame does, however, allow the Oppo Reno 10 5G to pack a larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen than its predecessor, with the newer phone also boasting an impressive 93% screen-to-body ratio.
The phone’s refresh rate sits at 120Hz, and its display offers HDR10+ support and 950 nits of peak brightness. The screen itself is slightly curved, too, with Oppo describing the Reno 10 5G as having a “3D dual curved design.”
There’s an under-display fingerprint scanner, and the phone – which is available in the UK in one color: Silvery Grey (yes, that’s the official name) – is wrapped in a fingerprint-resistant coating.
Oppo Reno 10 5G: CamerasOppo is marketing the Reno 10 5G as “The Portrait Expert,” which says something about what the company considers to be the phone’s biggest strength.
The Reno 10 5G boasts a three-lens rear camera setup comprising a 64MP wide-angle lens (f/1/7), a 32MP telephoto lens (f/2.0) and an 8MP ultra-wide lens (f/2.2). The second of that lineup is what earns the phone its “Portrait Expert” title, with the telephoto lens offering a 47mm focal length and marking the first of its kind in the Oppo Reno range.
The Reno 10 5G offers a Pro-Portrait mode, too, which supposedly preserves the skin tone of subjects and puts “Pro aesthetics” at your disposal. On the selfie-snapping front, the Reno 10 5G packs a 32MP camera.
Oppo has told us that the Reno 10 5G is equipped with “by far the strongest set of cameras for where this phone sits in the market,” so we’re excited to put this setup to the test.

That said, the Dimensity 7050 is an objectively superior chipset to the Dimensity 1300 chipset used in the Oppo Reno 8, and since that phone already delivers solid performance for its mid-range price, we expect the Dimensity 7050 to deliver an even smoother scrolling and gaming experience.
Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 10 5G packs a hefty 5,000 mAh Oppo Reno 10 5G battery, which should reliably see you through a whole day of moderate to heavy use.
The phone comes bundled with Oppo’s 67W fast charger in the box – which isn’t a given these days (looking at you, Apple and Samsung) – and the company claims that you’ll be able to fully recharge the Reno 10 5G in just 47 minutes using this charger.
There’s no wireless charging capabilities, unfortunately, but that’s to be expected for a phone in this price range.
In terms of updates, Oppo says the Reno 10 5G will be supported with two years’ worth of Android updates and four years’ worth of security updates.
