Dell Inspiron Mini 9 review

  At first glance, Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 looks like what you'd get if you left one of Dell's full-size Studio series laptops in the dryer for too long. With a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a solid-state drive, the Mini 9 is an affordable entry-level, basic computing device.

The glossy 1024 x 600 resolution display looks reasonably sharp, and color reproduction is very good. Unfortunately, the screen can look a little dim if you're not viewing it from the right angle. You can adjust the angle, but you may still find yourself contorting into an ergonomically stressful position for the best view. All of the alphanumeric keys on the Mini 9's keyboard are large enough to easily write a document. But all of the other keys are either squeezed in (like the Tab, Shift, and Caps Lock keys) or assigned to unfamiliar locations.Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Mini Laptop Battery
At about 3 hours and 34 minutes of battery life, it's much better than the three-cell battery in the MSI Wind, which lasted only 2 hours and 24 minutes. As its name suggests, the Inspiron Mini 9 is very compact. It measures 1.07 x 9.13 x 6.77 inches -- barely enough to accommodate an 8.9-inch screen -- and weighs about 2.28 pounds.For example, the apostrophe key has slid into a spot next to the space bar, and the function keys are gone entirely, replaced by combination keys. Dell has built a solid mini laptop that's kid-friendly and will satisfy anyone who wants a system to take with them. The Inspiron Mini 9 isn't perfect, but it has a great design and a good price. I had a hard time choosing between this and Acer's Aspire One, but Dell has built a worthy competitor for its first foray into the mini laptop space.
