Arlo Pro 2 camera review

Sure, the Arlo Pro 2 has 1080p HD video, infrared night vision, and two-way audio, but is it worth the price?

One of the most affordable wireless cameras I’ve found that can operate completely wirelessly, and to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you, I took the liberty of testing it out in my own home. I really liked the Arlo Pro 2’s crisp video, and I know that’s because this baby camera records in 1080p HD resolution. 1080p is the industry standard these days, so this camera is on par with the competition.

Now, the Arlo Pro 2 does have a night mode, which I like, which uses infrared lighting instead of white light. Some cameras use white light, and while white light can take good pictures, I find the harsh light very distracting and easy to spot by an intruder. Infrared lighting is more subtle and just as effective in some situations.

That’s not to say this is the worst night mode I’ve seen, but I’ve seen better ones. We’ll get into that comparison later.

The two-way audio feature on the Arlo 2 is excellent.

You can accomplish a lot with two-way audio, and I have to say that the Arlo Pro 2 excels in this regard. In terms of storage options, the Arlo Pro 2 is great for having both local and cloud storage.

Like I mentioned earlier, I had no issues setting up the Arlo Pro 2 camera using the Arlo hub. Barring any network issues, I don’t think anyone would spend more than 20 minutes getting everything set up.

Most cameras come with some form of motion notifications, but I just want to point out that the Arlo Pro 2 has both motion and sound notifications, which is a pretty unique feature. This camera is really good at capturing any kind of commotion, which can be very useful or very annoying.

Hidden Features?

I love the wireless capabilities of the Arlo Pro 2 because it means my cats don't have extra wires to play with or chew on around the house. But it turns out that I miss out on features when my camera isn't plugged in, like nonstop continuous recording, the ability to designate motion/activity zones, and 3-second replay.

The 3-second replay feature allows the camera to record for three seconds before it detects activity, giving you a more complete picture of what's happening in the footage.
